I don't understand this thread. Are people complaining the Gamecube had better first party games?

.... and this reason is because you must be mentally ill. :p
@ OP I think that Melee is better than Brawl, but that's just me.

I would have to disagree. There's not a big difference sure, but with the Wii version you get widescreen and a smoother framerate. I say this having played both on the same TV.

If this paragraph doesn't 'do it' for you, then nothing will. No sly comments about me bringing up U2 please. I think it's a very good point that the game of the year was wholly developed and released within the Wii's dry spell. Especially considering that the recources required to dev said game are much higher than any (that's a guess) Wii game to date. |
True, but naughty dog work on...how many games at a time was it again? 1 or 2???

I prefer 2007 then the rest of the year because of Super mario galaxy which is one of my favorite games... while 2008 had brawl, MKWii, and animal crossing so its a close second.
its all about preferences...

My complaints revolve around three things:
1. A year and a half long drought between Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Animal Crossing and Punch Out didn't do much for me, and sadly after NSMBW things still don't look too exciting, as we have no idea when SMG2 or the next Metroid will hit. They could be 6+ months off, which basically means we'll have gone 2+ years with only a single big Nintendo release - NSMBW.
2. The abandonment of franchises like WaveRace, Pilotwings, and Star Fox - despite these franchises being extremely well suited to the Wii's controls - in favor of mere tech demos using similar gameplay elements. I don't want waveracing and flying in Wii Sports Resort. I want full games dedicated to these activities.
3. The lack of really good, new IPs that aren't in the Wii series. Last gen Pikmin took the world by surprise, and Metroid Prime was an amazing reinvention of an old series. We also saw the creation of franchises like Battalion Wars. What have we had this gen? Excitebots?
And I don't really agree with your list. Yeah, NPC Pikmin is a better game than Pikmin, but as far as their importance to their respective line ups goes, the former is a mere port while the latter was an amazing new IP. And we haven't seen a single screenshot of Pikmin 3. As for all those other Wii games you mentioned, they cannot compare to the likes the Wind Waker, Star Fox Adventures, Luigi's Mansion, and F-Zero-GX, arguably the best F-Zero of all time. I suppose the Excite games can compare to WaveRace in a way, but I'd much rather play Mario Kart or WaveRace than either of those.
I'm a person that was very content with Nintendo's offerings up until Mario Kart Wii. Since then all I've bought was NSMBW and WSR, and the latter only for WM+. Sorry, but I do want more, and given the fact that Nintendo is richer than ever, I don't think it's all that much to ask.
Edit:
Just realized my post sounds far harsher than it should. I love my Wii, and can't wait for Super Mario Galaxy 2. Zelda Wii will probably take the position of my favorite game this gen. It's just this drought is freakin' killing me. I need my Nintendo games!
What are people complaining about? OP is heavily biased and perhaps not everyone shares the same opinion? Perhaps, I dunno, but its certainly one possibility.
The reason I complain (when I do) is that when I sat down to write a purchase list for the Wii I only came up with seven games I really wanted after three years on the market and that is unprecedented for me.

You complete missed my point.

Your point is disingenuous in the first place. U2 couldn't have had a 1.5 year R&D cycle without all the heavy lifting that went into it's predecessor tech and gameplay wise (and it's own 2+ year cycle). It should be dismissed for the same reason you dismissed Mario Galaxy 2.
