Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy XIII NA,EU theme song VS Japan theme song

Are still people going on about this debate? I think it's pretty simple.

If it irks you so much that the song is included in the NA/EU version of the game, import the JP version if you like, or if you don't want to, then don't get the game.

Don't you people see that the only ones missing out on the game would be only you? It's not because of a 4 minute song that the entire quality of FFXIII will be cast aside, a 60+ hours game.

What's next, people complaining that damage numbers went from Traditional white to yellow? I just dread the type of threads that are going to be made once the JP version releases in 11 days and people start importing it.

So you have played the game?

puh-lease

ONLY S-E knows how the game's narrative goes & what the story is

ONLY they can tell which song will fit the game & which won't

The song wasn't design to be a FF song, it was picked out of Leona Lewis's latest album. Leona Lewis (or whoever writes her song) did NOT have FFXIII in mind when they created this song. Even if some of the lyric relates to the game, it will either have to be a conincident or the game designer fitting their story around a theme song (and I shudder at the later scenario).

Previous FF had song that were specifically created for the game, I feel that this is a much better approach than waiting for the game to be near complete and picking a random song out of the 'what's hip' catalogue that voguely fit your need in term of lyric and tune.

S-E failed here.

In the announcement video they said "the song FITS the game"

If they are saying that I will believe them over the 100's of Final Fantasy fans who have shown that they are better at moaning at S-E than doing anything else in the past 5 years

Have some trust in the developers

@words of Wisdom

so what?

Music from FF12 wouldn't fit into scenes from FF7

& music from FF7 would seem out of place in games like FF10 & FF12

once again.....its not as simple as you think it is

S-E didn't have some random lottery to decide which western song they would choose, they have ANALYZED each song carefully to see which would fit the game well......

Fit the game does not equal tailor made for the game. Eyes on me was tailor made for the game. A thousand word was tailor made for the game. This is the first time where a music was chosen that was NOT tailor made for the game and I'm almost certain they did it to give FF a more mass market appeal. It dislike it intensely because it compromise the art.

And no, I don't trust SE, they've fucked up so many time and lied so many times. I'm excited for FFXIII but SE has a lot of steps to re-climb before I can genuinely praise them as a company that I once adore.

Final Fantasy already has mass market appeal.  It is the most famous RPG fanchise for crying out loud.

Most Famous RPG! Key word here! When you're trying to attract new audiences, you generally do so by providing more mainstream appeal. Leona Lewis has more mainstream appeal than Final Fantasy.

Some of us care, and yes it will detract the overall expirience of the game for me, even if that detraction would be minute. The OP is asking for people's opinion and we're giving it, I see nothing wrong here.

@Darth

Previous post seems a bit harsh so I'd like to clarify the song arguable does fit the theme, just because it is not tailor made does not mean it is meaningless. I just feel that it is a cheap sell-out of the franchise.

In case you're wondering, the key theme of the song is departing and hope for the future, which both the Japanese version and the English convey in some way.

Here is the lyric of kimi ga iru kara fyi:

translation
Because you suddenly said, “it’s alright to cry”
I was somehow happy and smiled without a tear
Unfortunately, I’ve hurt you with overly clumsy words
Nevertheless you haven’t left me, but keep
supporting me in this way even now
surely…

The wishes and dreams I want to fulfil
All the feelings I want to send out
That in which I keep believing, summons a miracle
And will be connected to the future
I want to watch over you, always, yes always
Dear, my friend

Because you told me, “you will be alright”, at the time of our parting,
the loneliness I felt, disappeared beautifully with that single word
Opening a new door is something everyone is afraid of, but
when I remember how you've always encouraged me, I am filled with strength

I won’t surrender my honest feelings
All these honest words
If I can convey them with my voice, the future will spread out
Because you are in my heart, forever, yes forever
Dear, my friend

Even if I stop or seem to forget
I vow that I will always keep moving forward
The sky above me is shining a light
until the day I can meet you

I won’t surrender my honest feelings
All these honest words
If I can convey them with my voice, the future will spread out
The wishes and dreams I want to fulfil
All the feelings I want to send out
That in which I keep believing, summons a miracle
And will be connected to the future
I want to watch over you, always, yes always
Dear, my friend

OST should be good from start to finish, it should made around the game, not handpicked later on.

The main theme song is always remembered by JRPG fans, but this one seems unlikely, only a select few like the "International" version and they most likely are fans of the genre.

Also thanks for the translation mibuokami!

And you know that because....?

Seriously, you begin with S_E only knowing what music fits the game and then you come up something like this....

As if you would know that they analyzed each song. I think it's a weird incidence that they come up with a song from an album that it is released nearly at the same time as the announcement from FFXIII:

FFXIII annuncement: November 13, 2009

"Echo" album from Leona Lewis: November 16, 2009 (UK) / November 17, 2009 (US)

Shortly after the FFXIII announcement I saw ads for her album everywhere. For me the choice of the song was nothing more than a piss-poor advertising for Leona Lewis' album. I don't want to know how much the record company paid S-E for the decision.....

I know this because it makes sense.

Please stop assuming you know better than S-E

this isn't nursery school, they have OBVIOUSLY gone through artists & have decided to see which song from them would suit the game

FF13 is their project, they want the best for it, they aren't going choose a song which doesn't suit the game in any way at all.....they are not 5 year old kids running an organisation no matter what you may think.

I don't want to make a confusion. I don't particulary care about the song "My hands", nor do I care about RnB, quite the contrary.

I just think it's a bit too much to allow your experience to be detracted by a single song in the game. I prefer the JP song to the NA/EU version, but I don't go as far as most do to claim that the entire game suffers in quality because of it.

Also, as a side note, why wasn't this same thing said about previous FF songs? After hearing the NA/EU song, it didn't strike me as it being so different from "Kiss me goodbye" or "Eyes on me". I've been a fan of the series since FFIV and have seen a fair share of complains, each time a new FF is released (fans can't never be satisfied, so it seems), but it's the first time they complain about a song and claim that it will ruin their experience.

Sure, the lyrics of Kimi Ga iru kara fits better than the lyrics of my hands. Darth, what are terrible about the music choice is that they just got the main music of Leona's album and throwed in a FF game. Leona voice is beatiful, what are in question here is why didn't S-E just made a adaption of the japanese music to english and asked to Leona to sing it, it be much better then using a song that talks about make-up and shower.

so that it will appeal to more people

Leona is VERY popular in UK

I just wish, that they offered both...you know offer something for the old fan, and the new fan.

I love both Leona Lewis and Final Fantasy, so I'm set.

I pity most of you though, for the opinions shown.

@Acevil

I'm an old fan, but it doesn't mean I have to dislike the new things they try.
