Survival horror games are not about fighting. The combat systems in past SH games will at best competent(Homecoming) and at worst clunky. Even Yahtzee, a huge SH2 fan, feels that way about the combat.

Rationing of weapons and ammo is a large part of the Silent Hill series.
While true that not all survival horror games require weapons, Silent does does. Is how the series was built.

While I'm sure I'm going to enjoy the Silent Hill remake, I have to agree. Weapons were a large part of what made Silent Hill games good. It used to frustrate me, but now I know it's part of the framework: The characters in Silent Hill would stumble, slowly aim at the enemy. Sometimes, they'd totally miss their target! Combined with the feeling that something was always lurking just offscreen (Silent Hill 1 was especially good at always keeping you tense, despite almost never showing you anything when you expected it) and it made for a very disturbing and unnerving experience.
