I think it deserves to be nominated and in the running. As for winning, I would disagree.
My GOTY this year is still Batman: Arkham Asylum. Saddening it won't win any of them haha.
I will tell you if you are right by the end of the month.

Playing NSMBW has been the most fun I've had with a game EVER, though, being drunk with my friends that night might have helped -.-
Amazing game, totally worth GOTY, but I would be surprised if it won.

Anyway, I didn't play it, and also I think that even if I would, I won't choose it as my GotY, since in single player games, I prefer a good story, and when talking about multiplayer, I prefer more complex games (like RTS/Fighting games).
Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
