He knows about business, but not about games."
I'll take his word over yours if you're not going to at least try to back that up. He usually tries to back up his claims.
"So would this mean a game like Mass Effect sucks and that gamers who prefer these kinds of games suck?"
He is not implying the latter. He doesn't claim the latter. He's stating why those games don't appeal to the mainstream. Don't add implications to strawman this. |
Back up my claims?
I would like to know exactly what he is saying so that I can provide a sufficient rebuttal.
First, you said that by spoofing Rambo, he meant being "over the top"
Then, with spoofing Alice in Wonderland, he meant "similar to"
Then, by spoofing Star Wars, he meant to "only include one aspect and make it crazier"
I really don't understand what he is saying. The examples aren't very similar enough to derive the meaning from his context, and I really don't think serious games are bad. I really don't think he was making a very serious point because one of his bullets was "strange shower scenes" and the others repeat themselves.
His other bullets though, say serious, emphasis on story..etc.
His bullets for good games are
Not serious
Funny
Quirky
Crazy
No serious story
the only one contra doesn't fit is "no serious story". In fact many titles don't fit any of these criteria. But guess which games don't have any real story? NES games. Arcade Games. Mini games.
"This generation isn’t a “Console War”, it is a war for the soul of gaming. Is gaming going to continue to be the big, bloated “Industry” type games or will it be something else?"
While I agree that arcade games are great, and I wish we could get back to a point where games are more pickup and play, they are not the "soul of the industry", and it doesn't make story games bloated.
So yes, I disagree that the kind of gaming Mal likes is the best kind of game. I wouldn't have disagreed with him had this been solely his opinion, but his little trolling comments about story games being bloated and bad for the industry, or even simply that they suck, are what I feel compelled to disagree with.
Does wii fit spoof actual exercise? Gimme a break.
