I'm a little torn by these ads. Clearly, these are better than the previous ones; they don't have that "What the hell, that's just creepy" effect.

On the other hand, my MAIN complaint about their previous ads was that they almost exclusively appealed to the male, age 16-25 demographic, and that problem still remains. This simply isn't going to appeal to girls, women, young boys (say sub 10), or adults over the age of 40. It's almost exclusively a young male badassness that not only doesn't attract women, but can actually repel them.

And what game from the ad are supposed to appeal to women and girls ? If it had Singstar LBp Afrika i might have agreed to a certain extent. But they arent marketing to soccer moms, they have to hit hard at the demographis their current games are made for. Do you see Warhawk, Uncharted Heavenly as girly games ? i sure dont. All i see is a pathetic complaint about something sony did well.

You want to market to girls and women you first need a product that appeals to them.

You just named some games that might appeal to girls, and then proceeded to tell me that no such games exist.

Singstar, Little Big Planet, Afrika, and Ratchet and Clank are all games that can appeal more to women; just combine these games with some games that appeal more to men, such as Resistance or Heavenly Sword AND combine it with smart advertising. You don't actually have to make a girlie add, with pink colors and flowers everywhere; just gender neutral. Look at precisely what Apple has done with their products -- they are neither macho nor feminine, neither childish nor uncool.

Step 1 in achieving this balance? Don't put heavy metal music in your add.

Some good old common sense.

They are getting the wii casue its cheep and its software is family/child oriented.

This is a $400 or $500 console and theres not one reason for a girl/women to buy it now. To make the ad more girl friendly would be a waste.

A commercial with Singstar, Buzz, home, LittleBigPlanet, Afrika should be made to appeal to women and be put on during girly kid shows and oprah, but now they have no produts that appeal to that demographic.

Nintendo is destroying the industry!

When PS60 get price cut, Wii is through.

Wii Fit!!????

Nintendo is abandoning the hardcore!

When this game comes out, THEN the PS360 will take off!

Nintendo not serious about online.

Wii is just a party machine.

Wii sells because it is cheap.

Pachter says…

Nintendo milks profit due to inferior hardware!

Gamecube started well at first too…

Wii is a fad!

LOL minigames!!1!

PS3 is on a ten year plan.

Wii is two Gamecube systems put together by duct tape!

Argh!!! Non-games!!!1!!!

Wii-mote is a gimmick.

Stupid casual gamers!

Only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo systems.

When HD adoption rate goes up, Wii is finished.

Who cares about Wii sales? All the real games are on PS60!

Where are the third parties? LOL!

VC is overpriced rom dump!

What happens when people get bored of Wii Sports?

Are we playing blackout or do I just need 5 in a row?

Seriously, lets not make this about the Wii, I gave you serious legit arguments and you came back at me with a bunch of PS3 fanboy talking point BS. Try again, this time formulate an opinion beyond "teh PS3 is for teh menz!~ Teh kiddies and girls shud step aside!" Or at least address one of the points I made.

 how do you play blackout?

anyways, he actually has a point on Wii sales but said it the wrong way.

The Wii appeals to more family oriented people. 5 people on my block has a Wii. Do they plan on buying any other titles other then Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Music, WiiFit or any other Wii titled games. Nope. They all love my PS3 but they wont buy it because they would only use the multimedia features because the PS3 doesnt have family games yet. Not that its to expensive. Just the game line-up. They also all said LBP really interests them. Ratchet and Clank is a game they would let their kids paly once their kids get above the age of 12.

Now heres another thing that makes it show that Wii, yes has a ton of Nintendo;s core fanbase that loves metroid, mario etc, but is widely purchased more by more then gamerrs like the Wii owners here. My 83 year old grandmother bought a Wii. She never even played Pong back in the day and she buys a Wii. Now doesnt that speak volumes?

Now can we get back to the purtpose of this thread, this discussion is way off topic. This is about how SOny is doiing a great job advertising the PS3 and it's games finally.

Bodhesatva & EnosStory: Sony does not have the software and price point to reach out to the "kids" and women (they definitely don't have the publicity). They are having enough problems reaching out to their "bread & butter" group (the 17-25yr olds). Complaining that Sony's choice of consumer targeting is wrong based on their first ad in their new campaign is a little bit too much criticism. Why would sony put so much money into making ad's about their more casual games that are no where near the official release date? isn't that what got them into alot of heat in the first place? y'know, over-promising and under-delivering. I'm sure Sony and Microsoft would love to tap into the mass market just as Nintendo has, but neither of them are in the position to give any real competition.

Nice to see Sony finally showed up. I guess it is better late than never. These ads are defenetly more understandable than any previous PS3 ads. If they can hammer the air waves with this and the Ratchet ad for the rest of the year in the US, I expect very good sales numbers. We also can't forget that they stil have one more big title without an ad yet. Uncharted I think is going to do awsome this year, and I expect an equally awsome ad for it. From a Sony fanboy perspective it looks like Sony is doing everything right at the moment. They have a perfectly timed price drop, a eye catching ad campane to back it up, great exclusive titles, and the backing of the 4 biggest movie studios in hollywood. Now it is all up to the average consumer to do their job and buy the right product. We will see how it unfolds, but in my opinion it looks like Sony has took the mound in the second inning with new found confidence. The opposing teams bats are about to cool down, and Sony is just pulling their out of the oven.

Wait so you are doing a hit and run?  You state your peace and then change the topic?  Thats pretty lame man.  But honestly I have had this argument so many times I am willing to let it go, just wanted to point that out. I don't think thats quite what you intended to do to be fair, but if you plan on telling others to drop an issue you shouldn't start by giving your opinion on it.

@topic,

As I have said before, the Ad itself, is good and it will sell consoles far better than the previous ad did.  I do however think that they could benefit greatly from targeting the female demographic a bit more.  Generally speaking guys are willing to like anything the girls like (within limits of course) and in serious relationships women generally have the guy whipped on the wallet.  Its a stereotype sure but they aren't funny cause they're wrong..they're funny cause they're right.

Obviously they shouldn't be appealing to the female crowd to the exclusion of their core demographic, but rather they should be looking for something that guys want to play but might feel the need to use the "its for my girlfriend/wife" excuse. I'm sure actual professionals can come up with way better ads than I can but I think I got the point across. Hell they could actually use that as the commericial.

A guy walks into a store and buys a PS3 and <insert game name> and the cashier gives him a look....he gulps and says "Its for my girlfriend" and they cut to him playing the game by himself....then a second later have him joined by his girlfriend who is suddenly very interested in this new game and shoehorns her way in stealing the control and brushing him aside so she can play.  You can do follow up ads with a "the tables have turned" type approach where the guy is trying to talk to his girlfriend but she is engrossed in a game and not responding...etc...

Well like I said I am sure a pro can do better but its not horrible.

If that makes you yawn, then I'd guess that a commercial with two Japanese men saying "Wii would like to play" would put you into a coma. :)

That's a great commercial and full of action, lots of game action, and really gets the blood pumping while watching it.  Good use of Saliva in the commercial too.

My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard. And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I'll trade this, but not my charizard.

It's a good advertisement to be sure. And it's easy to turn it into a series as well. I like it.

However, the music is a little XTREME!!!!!!!!!! for my tastes.

For someone who claims to have common sense, how could you be missing this? The fact that those games aren't in the ad is part of the problem (although R&C is in there).

Why is that so hard? Your logic is circuituous and rather befuddling.

Me: "This advertisement is to directly geared at males age 18-25."

You: "But that's what the advertisement is for. Look at the games."

Me: "I know... and it shouldn't be that way. They should swap some games out to appeal to other demographics."

You: "But that's not what this advertisement does."

I know. That's the problem.
