@ Lord,

"Lowered profits" of the other companies? That's an understatement, PS3 isn't profitable at all, they're drowning in red ink. Dunno about the 360, but I seriously doubt it's profitable. Could be though. Still, nowhere near Wii, which is lightyears ahead.

Everyone and their grandmother love to bash Nintendo, but the fact remains that they're one of the very most succesful and profitable companies in the entire world, which cannot be said of their competitors.

I wrote "even in whole", as in not just the gaming divisions.

You did. So then, as in, their gaming divisions are not making ahy profit, but in fact posting losses? Sorry, didn't quite understand that form your post, but that's okay, as long as we agree on Nintendo's astounding profitability.

What I meant was that the entire Sony corporation and Microsoft corporation weren't doing so well either.

Sony maybe, Microsoft though ?

Microsoft lowest profit in any quarter since the start of 2000 has been around 1.5 billion$ ( and that was ike 9 years ago).

Nintendo's best yearly profit was 4.77 billion$ ( what Microsoft typically earns these days in 5 months, ).

Nintendo's target profit for 2009-2010 is 2.5 billion$. Microsoft made 3.57 billion$ of profit for the first quarter of 2009-2010...

Right now Nintendomarket capitalization is little less than 40 billion$. Microsoft is 266 billion$....

Stop comparing what isn't comparable....

That was only on the chance someone else would try to compare Nintendo ltd to Sony corp and Microsoft corp. I know damn well they aren't compatible.

Now, if you go for profit per employee :P

no matter how you spin it, the Wii did outsell the PS3 and 360 this thanksgiving weekend, so I don't really seem any harm, just that it didn't meet Nintendo's expectations.

but both the Wii and 360 are down YoY....but hey 2010 is a whole new year

In some fairness, in the business world you're considered to either be growing or dying, and Nintendo isn't growing right now.

According to my textbooks there's also such a concept as 'Stabilization'(which I wont bother explaining as it speaks for itself)...

which I'm pretty sure doesn't mean having profits decline by 30%+

What's Sony then with 200% loss compared to the days of ps2?

Oh wait, that doesn't count right?

if the wii is doomed the 360 is what ? i mean in terns of sales 360 has never reach the levels of the wii and still get smaller numbers above last year ... ans sony up sales ...c'mon it realy could get any worst compare to last years sales ???

Dont forget one simple datail , Nintendo only make games , no OSs , no TVs only games , how much of that profits comes from the game division from MS ? or from Sony ?

Why do people love to bash the Wii SOOOO much?
Always manipulating every way possible to show the negatives.

Damn, when are people gonna cut Nintendo some slack???

There is no Knowledge that is not Power

At this pace, even keeping going down and PS3 up, Wii would remain first in WW weekly sales at least another 2 years and it would take another 4-5 for the 2nd to become 1st, so the worst possible destiny for Wii is to remain 1st for another 6 years at least, and largely exceeding 130million lifetime sales too The horror, the horror!!!

You are right. Nintendo does not force people to buy its products like Microsoft essentially does. Being the de facto standard for OS and productivity software in the world ensures that you make a profit -- even though that profit was down by one-third in the April quarter of 2009.

As for Sony, at one point this generation, Nintendo's cash reserves were greater than Sony's market cap.  In other words, Nintendo could have bought IN CASH all Sony stock -- for the entire corporation. Of course, since Sony was closing plants and losing money, it would not have been a wise move.

Essentially though, the console market has a gaming company (Nintendo) and an electronics company (Sony) and a computer software company (Microsoft).  Only one has to live and die with gaming -- and it continues to make profits.
