Forums - Nintendo - Casual market abusers are leaving the Wii. Change for the better?

To be honest, as a Wii owner, I am glad that some of the horrible 3rd party developers are moving away from the Wii in droves.
There are a few good 3rd party devs. that are sticking around and that is all that is needed. No one wants to play a game where you just randomly move the Wii-mote around in a sporadic fashion in hopes that what you are doing is helping the game out. Or a game where the only thing you do is point and click on totally random things in hopes to achieve something in game.

Side note: I hope that if they do come out with Red Steel 2 that they fix the horrible game-play and controls from the first. I could not even get close to finishing the first game; the game-play and controls are just too horrible in it.

Hopfully it means less shovelware, but i dont think it does. Next year their are probably a few key 3rd party efforts for the Wii that can change this: MH3 in the west, Epic Mickey, Red steel 2, and NMH2. These 4 games look like real efforts on the Wii, and i wouldnt be surprised if they did well.

I'm even betting that MH3 will be a very good success especially since Nintendo are giving them a hand in promoting it and the fact that Capcom have done well on the console

Don't forget Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearers, Tales of Graces, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Samurai Warriors 3, The Sky Crawlers, Fragile Dreams, Rune Factory: Frontier (for Europe).

I think all this games are honorable Third-Party efforts for 2010.

And I am looking forward to "de Blob 2", because the first game is one of my most loved Wii games :)

^^ i ment games that will have a good impact in the west. Dont get me wrong they;re all great games but i dont see them doing good numbers, and i hope i'm proven wrong :)

Of course they will, Red Steel was a launch tittle, they hadn't quite figured the controls out yet, but after Prime 3 devs took note and any FPS now controls incomparably better than Red Steel. Also, just watch some videos and it's obvious the controls are a lot better, they'll probably be among the best controls on Wii.

Dead Space sold about 1-1/2M combined on the PS3 and Xbox 360. So it was not that big of a franchise.

But the "guided first person experience" appears to have been doomed by coming out around the same time that a similar Resident Evil spin-off (a much more popular franchise with prior success on the Wii console) -- despite getting some solid reviews.

As for most of the rest of the efforts noted, they are not worth noting.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Is it a change for the better? For me, it doesn't matter because I avoid the shovelware anyway. For the Wii market as a whole? I'm not sure. It might make it easier for people to find good games, but then again, the PS and PS2 seemed to thrive on shovelware.

But that is because it also had "killer-app" games that stood out from that.

The Wii is getting the market leader's shovelware, but not the blockbusters that usually accompany it. This has never happened in gaming before.

Yeah, I know.

But with all these games, maybe some developer will stumble onto a formula that works one of these days.

The Japanese devs have caught on. The Wii has about a dozen+ games dropping in 2010 from them.

Western teams on the other hand...........have done squat diddly ;(

It's about time people say no to shovelware. I mean, even the most casual gamers probably wants quality games, but they have to swim through the Sea of Junk to find something worthy of their money.
I hope this will have some kind of positive effect on the more serious companies.
