Forums - Sales Discussion - *Lets face it the PS2 needs to go*

Don't think we can say that the PS2 is stealing alot of sales from the PS3. They're at totally different price points and the PS3 offers much more functionality as the newer technology.

Currently own: PC (duh), SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP.

Why would you discontinue something that still sell? That's not very wise.

No

hey the ps3 is already ready to hold its own! it has been holding its own since launch! the ps3 has been through alot of shit and come out stronger than it has ever been. the ps2 is having no effect on it!

Not just yet. Besides, it is mainly hurting the sales of the 360 arcade model, not PS3, and I'm cool with that!

Most stupid topic of the week? Well, it's only Wednesday...

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"People don't pay attention to a lot of the details."-Yusuf Mehdi explaining why Xbone DRM scheme would succeed

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

"The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games"-MDMAlliance

Who are these people that have the money and desire to buy a PS3 but are buying PS2's instead??? If anything because the 360 can be had at $100 cheaper and possibly be modded for free games if they stop the PS2 sales then those poor people will move on to the 360 NOT the PS3.

I like how not one person agrees with the OP. There are things about business that you just don't understand. No one's going to buy a PS3 instead of a PS2 because the PS2 has been discontinued? What? Because it's called PLAYSTATION, that makes people go from PS2-PS3? No, that's fanboyism. The PS2 is 100 bucks, and selling at profit, and it's the cheapest console. If the PS2 is discontinued, it would help Wii sales, because the PS3 is 300 dollars, while the Wii is 200.

It's about pricing, not, "Oh, people are buying PS2 STILL, Sony should stop making it so they'll buy PS3." They'll stop buying PS2s and get Wiis, or nothing at all. It's about price, and if every gamer was a fanboy, SEGA and Nintendo would still be going neck and neck... Good thing you're not a Sony employee..

Well, actually, Atari would be dominating, but, you get the point... I hope..

The PS1 sold alongside the PS2 for six years.

No, the PS2 does NOT need to be discontinued, not while it's a viable, successful, profitable console which still sells reasonably well. Nobody will choose a $300 PS3 when they no longer have the opportunity to buy a $100 PS2. They're far more likely to go for the $200 360, or $200 Wii. the PS2 cuts into Wii60 sales, not PS3 sales.

If people want a PS3 they will buy a PS3. If they only have $100 then they will buy a PS2. Without the BC in the PS3, they do not compete with one another. Probably one of the reasons (besides construction costs) they removed the BC from the PS3. When you are making a profit, removing that which gives you a profit is a bit silly.
