Absolutely no reason to cancel PS2's production because it does NOT in ANY way interfere PS3's sale. People buying PS3s probably already owns a PS2. People who buy PS2s NOW might be ex-ps2 owners, who's PS2 is broken. PS3 also does NOT have backward compatibility, so it's a good way for Sony to sell PS2 to people who want Backward compatibility.

No, the PS1 lasted 12 years and Im sure that the PS2 will last longer. Also, the PS2 is profitable and it is still selling.

PS2 is still selling amazingly well, both hardware AND software.

PS2 will still be around when PS4 releases.

Well, PSone was officially discontinued in 2006. March 23, 2006 to be precise.

Expect PS2 to be on the market for at least 12, probably more. It ONLY JUST launched in Brazil.

It's still $100 in NA, it will get another big bunch of sales when/if it ever hits $50.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw PS2 still around in 2015...

The only reason i think that though, is because of the market's Sony have tapped into with the PS brand.

PS2 has by far the biggest and best SW library of any console, its cheap/affordable, well known... Makes a profit...

Sony will keep the PS2 around for as long as possible.

We dont know how low Sony can go on PS3 price and gain profit, which may be a big factor for if they keep it on the market for too long after PS4 releases.

I'd say this gen, Sony 1st party has already beaten 1st party offerings on PS2. Next year, will pull even further ahead. But then again... Sony 1st party NEEDED to be quality.

They shouldn't stop making the PS2, I think they should stop once it sells less than a million consoles in a year.
