Well actually, for the most part, internal tracking of that of companies is not actually them tracking it. I know this is a common misconception, but usually they get their numbers from outside sources. Remember, if they had a way of tracking numbers internally, then they would subscribe to things like NPD, Chart Track, GFK, etc. Meaning, more than likely, this is either some estimates they are using with help from NPD numbers, or just complete early estimates from that of NPD all together. Was the same thing last year when Ninty, MS, and Sony all released their numbers.

Now as for sales, this would putt Wii at about 650k-700k on the week with a 10% margin so our early estimates are within a good range and really not that far off at all. Don't understand the freak out. Same for the DS numbers as well. Why people are bringing up PS3 in this situation is silly as that doesn't have anything to do with the discussion. But considering our numbers are about the same as Ninty estimates/NPD estimates then really I don't see how that would affect PS3 estimates or any other console.

Little more than 550k in the US isn't going to do 650-700k for Americas on Black Friday's week.

At most it will do 620k or so.........

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Don't straw man what I say.  I included the 10% margin for a reason.  If you are going to quote me... quote everything I say.

Good then it wasn't a quoting problem but a reading problem.  Or a comprehension problem.  Your choice.

I gave a range where I thought the number would eventually lie and then gave a 10% margin for good measure.  It's a lot better than stating an exact number which you have done.

Something seems a bit odd with this.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

As an NPD customer, Nintendo most likely cross checked their numbers with NPD's before publishing them because they really don't want to look like fools when NPD stuff is released...

As for the difference between US and America, it is usually 10% however as someone pointed out Black Friday is a US only event so you woudn't expect US sales to represent more than 90% of America's sales this week..

Actually its no longer just US, Canadian retailers do it now as well, to prevent people from crossing the border to shop

My EB games had nothing going on, only Future Shop did - they were trying to make a big deal of it, but the store wasn't more full than any other day and the deals were pretty lame.

hmm, nintendo do seem to give out real sales data these days, what did vgchartz estimate at? 800k was it? thats 250k off and you cant argue about it cause these are from intendo themselves. maybe all the consoles were overtracked! 360 probably lower, ps3 lower too.

wii was adjusted down after and ps3 adjusted up

I assumed the DS would do better than the Wii, but this much? If it's accurate, I'm thinking the Wii has to have been overtracked recently, I can't imagine its Black Friday boost being so small...

As for the DS, I'd say the opposite. VGC has had it down the past few weeks, if this were accurate, shooting past last year's mark by over 20% or so wouldn't make much sense.

Oh well, bad news for the Wii, great for the DS.

edit: Bad & good are probably understatements - honestly, it's closer to terrible (Wii down massively after cut / huge games) & ridiculous (a 5 year old system still breaking weekly records...).

LOL people and their overreactions.

A. Just like every PR statement we have a vague quote "over 550" How much over eh? We never took them seriously before unless VGC had them under the amount said. And no... They wouldnt say over 600k if it were... They could have about 600k maybe a little over but one thing is certain which is 550k so they gave you the number they know for sure.

B. VGC DOES include Canada and Mexico.

C. VGC always gave Wii 12-15% extra with 360 like 10-12% and Ps3 like 9 - 11% depending on whats going on during what periods...

VGC looks to be marginally off.
