Forums - Nintendo - Should Square port FFXIII to Wii?

Did someone actually said that the last FF came out a decade ago?... Now I see how skewed people's vision of time really is o_O

As long as they are in the mindset of tech over practicality, like thinking physical media is somehow on the way out, then they won't give the Wii the support it deserves. Same with all the developers.

The Wii is vastly underpowered compared to the PS3/360/PC. That was Nintendo's decision and it has been "practical" for their bottom line. But why must the rest of the industry stand still because Nintendo decided to launch a console with specs that are closer in performance to systems launced over a decade ago? If we really wanted to be "practical" we could all still be playing Atari.

Honestly; if we wanted all wanted hardware performance, we should be using gaming PC's instead of hardware that's wouldn't have been relevant for PC's 8 years ago.

In all honesty, PC gaming is a whole other beast, as different games utilize different specs.  And some PC games can come out or run on 'specs' that would be deemed sub par but others have to utilize the most advanced 'specs' to generate interest.  Heck, WoW looks pretty bad by todays standards, but people don't play it for its graphical power.  They play it because its the most popular and complete MMO out at the moment.  But yet some other games coming out are going well beyond the capacity of the avg PC on the market.

Likewise, a large part of the appeal for Final Fantasy has always been because the developers put its graphics at the forefront.  And if they had gone with the Wii (or even the DS) for the main games, as say Dragon Quest did, it probably would have been a risky decision.  As that's not their market.  While Final Fantasy does have many other parts which make up their games such as a large story and changing gameplay, a major selling point of the series has always been its emphasis on being one of the better looking RPGs of its time.  Even the FF games which appear on the Wii and DS focus on presentation and graphics, because the developers at SquareEnix know, that's their biggest draw.

Possibly, if they had known 5 years ago that the Wii userbase would be so much higher, they might have chosen to put it on the Wii instead.  But I still think they would have put it on the HD systems anyway.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Simple NO.

no, they shouldn't. in fact, hell no. SE needs to make another cute chocobo game for wii.

Wait...WTH are you talking about? I'm not talking about FF XIII, so how would it be downgraded if a FF XIII port never would exist? I'm talking about a NEW GAME that's NOT FF XIII, Agito, or Versus.

If you mean to say even that's pointless because it would ruin their vision blah blah blah then how do you explain Agito on the PSP?

Plus, didn't I just say I wouldn't buy a FF XIII port earlier in the thread? Did you even bother reading it?

Agito, BBS, and probably any other square game was made for the psp because it is a handheld game.  Handhelds are doing better in Japan and that is why PSP gets the love over there (and to a larger extent the DS).  They "just" released a game for the wii and it is doing terrible; so I was merely saying why in the world would they continue making games that are not profitable and also compromise their intended scale?  I will say this, the Wii and Psp do share a lot of games and that might start allowing the Wii to get a couple of games based upon that (Agito, BBS, Etc).

Edit: I really think that Square believes there is no market for their games (casuals) and this is why you will probably not see any main series game from Square on the Wii.

lol, they should drop Wii support because a FF spinoff didn't sell well? You know DQ X is coming to the Wii right...and that's a main series title.

FFCC released a month before FF XIII and was treated like a redheaded stepchild, tbh. Couple that with the fact that the game's not really an RPG, only 15 hours long, and made by the Code Age Commanders team which had no previous successful titles, is it really a surprise it sold badly? What do you think about MH3, a big CORE game on the Wii, on its way to 1 mil in JP alone? And what'll be your excuse for when Tales of Graces outsells FFCC, even being a lesser known series?

You think a new FF XIII title would do badly? That's laughable.

I don't think the Wii should get the PSP SE games...except BBS though. That'd do really well just like a KH3 would.

I am sorry but doesn't capcom make Monster Hunter 3?  I did not know that was a Square property?  I was only talking about Square; you are correct though about KH3 that would sell well even if it was on the N-Gage (if it was still a viable platform).  As for the Dragon quest game, I did not know that was going to make it to the wii since the one on the DS is doing so well.  Then again I have heard very little about the title and will obviously be proven wrong if that game does make it out this generation.

Sure. The more the merrier.
Internet meltdowns of that caliber don't occur that often.
As long as they don't release it at the same time as the Ps360 version, they are only gonna be pissing off the people that should be pissed off.

You read my post wrong. I meant they should make a new ground up FF XIII series game for the Wii that's like Versus or Agito, not Versus or Agito themselves.

I'm talking about the part where you said you wouldn't buy it. That just seems silly.
