Forums - Sony - The Fun Factor Battles: Killzone 2 vs Resistance 2

Hey everyone,

I've decided to start the Fun Factor Battles here because I want to know your opinions. I'm sure everyone here buy their games for entertainment purposes and gaming is all about having fun. Well having said that, I want to know what you think makes a specific game fun. Is it the gameplay elements that make that game fun to play? Is it the art style? Or perhaps the characters within the game?

So basically we're comparing two games and determining which of the two provides more enjoyment and fun to you and please tell us after your evaluation of each game, which of the two games will you buy if you could only buy one of them?

Here are a few rules about The Fun Factor Battles:

1) No trolling pls.

2) If you have never played one of the two games compared but you know enough about it to make a comparison, go ahead and tell us what you think the fun factors of the game is.

3) I won't compare console exclusives to each other i.e Killzone 2 vs Halo 3 nor compare HD games that aren't on the Wii compared to Wii exclusives i.e Assassin's Creed II vs NSMBW.

4) Games of different genres will be compared i.e Bioshock vs Need for Speed Shift, etc

5) Please do not mention other games in each battle. Only discuss the two compared games.

6) Games that are released will be compared. Never will there be comparisons of one unreleased game and one released game or two unreleased games i.e Final Fantasy XIII vs Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2 vs Splinter Cell: Conviction.

So here's how your evaluation should look like:

Game A Fun Factors

- blah blah blah

- blah blah blah

 Game B Fun Factors

- blah blah blah

- blah blah blah

 Game to buy: Game A

Now let's start off the first set of battles.

KILLZONE 2 vs RESISTANCE 2

Around the Network

Well in Killzone 2 the fun factor for me were the graphics, pumped me all the way up.
In Resistance the dominant fun factor definetely was the multi-player co-op.

^So if you could only buy one of the two games, which one will be your first choice?

RESISTANCE 2.

Resistance 2 is FUN

Killzone 2 is WAR

Both are great!

Game to buy: Killzone 2

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Resistance 2 online is fun.
Single player is shi, because you will die every 10 mins thx to bad desing.
Killzone 2 is all time fun.

Don't touch Resistance 2 single player or your controller will break.

Take my love, take my land..

Resistance 2 has pretty good boss fights, large environments, the multiplayer and coop is quite nice.

Killzone has very intense fights and a very good immersion, the multiplayer is good as well.

Game to buy : Killzone 2.

Resistance 2:

-Has some larger areas littered with enemies.
-Has large enemies
-60 player online multiplayer
-8 player co-op
-Interesting weapons
-Unique Skirmish mode (AI chooses objectives based on what's happening)
-Rico isn't in this game :P

Killzone 2:

-Better graphics and animations
-More interesting story (ex- website timeline)
-Helghast AI is pretty good
-32 player online multiplayer
-Unique Warzone mode (Objectives cycle so you'll play through 7 objectives in one match)
-More intense and gritty
-Usable weapons more grounded in reality (with two exceptions)

My opinion on the game to buy, Killzone 2.

Resistance 2 wasn't bad, but I just didn't enjoy the singleplayer or the online multiplayer though co-op wasn't bad if it wasn't for the extreme amount of grinding (and playing through the same map layouts over and over again). I feel that Hale is an uninteresting character and the story just keeps piling on the questions. There was that interesting marketing ARG for Resistance 2 which was cool, but that's it for the story. It's really frustrating on normal difficulty because you take a lot of damage and the enemy AI knows when you poke your head out of cover and will all start shooting at you. The multiplayer is still too fast paced for my tastes and the Skirmish mode doesn't end up being as good as it sounds. I'm also not a fan of the fact that you can't get XP if you join a game from the list menu and you're forced to use matchmaking to level up which might not get you the gameplay mode and number of players you want.

Killzone 2 does have it's issues as well (some voice acting, very difficult last level, and Rico for example), but I enjoyed the singleplayer and especially the multiplayer more.

Resistance 2:
+ Good SP, with lots of heated, arcady firefights
+ Coop mode (especially playing at a LAN event, awesome fun!)
+ Nice and quirky weapons
+ Good spectacles (boss fights)

Killzone 2:
+ The heavy feel made for great gameplay
+ Very chaotic presentation/great graphics, felt more like war than most other games because of it
+ Warzone mode is pretty fun
+ Very nice SP

Game to buy: Killzone 2. Unless you want to hold PS3 LAN events in which case Resistance 2 is a must.

None of these "Fun Factor" threads have taken off nearly as well as the OP had hoped, huh?
