Resistance 2:

-Has some larger areas littered with enemies.
-Has large enemies
-60 player online multiplayer
-8 player co-op
-Interesting weapons
-Unique Skirmish mode (AI chooses objectives based on what's happening)
-Rico isn't in this game :P

Killzone 2:

-Better graphics and animations
-More interesting story (ex- website timeline)
-Helghast AI is pretty good
-32 player online multiplayer
-Unique Warzone mode (Objectives cycle so you'll play through 7 objectives in one match)
-More intense and gritty
-Usable weapons more grounded in reality (with two exceptions)

My opinion on the game to buy, Killzone 2.

Resistance 2 wasn't bad, but I just didn't enjoy the singleplayer or the online multiplayer though co-op wasn't bad if it wasn't for the extreme amount of grinding (and playing through the same map layouts over and over again). I feel that Hale is an uninteresting character and the story just keeps piling on the questions. There was that interesting marketing ARG for Resistance 2 which was cool, but that's it for the story. It's really frustrating on normal difficulty because you take a lot of damage and the enemy AI knows when you poke your head out of cover and will all start shooting at you. The multiplayer is still too fast paced for my tastes and the Skirmish mode doesn't end up being as good as it sounds. I'm also not a fan of the fact that you can't get XP if you join a game from the list menu and you're forced to use matchmaking to level up which might not get you the gameplay mode and number of players you want.

Killzone 2 does have it's issues as well (some voice acting, very difficult last level, and Rico for example), but I enjoyed the singleplayer and especially the multiplayer more.
