Forums - Nintendo - Question for the Mario Lovers: NSMB vs Galaxy

So I've been playing *a lot* on my Wii lately (pun?). I just got NSMBW, but have only started playing Galaxy a few weeks ago. I like playing many games at once, so I've been able to compare the two pretty well.

The Question is: If you had to choose between NEVER playing another Galaxy-esque Mario or a NSMB-esque Mario, or in other words 2D vs 3D, which one would it be? (this question also translates to which is your favourite, but that's a bit boring)

Before I played NSMBW I would have said Galaxy - hands down. I've been blown away by Galaxy. It's pure genius. The only small gripe would be that it's a bit too easy at the start. Since I got NSMBW however, that's not such an easy call to make. You see there was no SNES in my country *sobs*, so I didn't really know how good 2D Mario could be until now.

Honestly, I can't choose. I'm close to finishing NSMB and I would guess around 80% with Galaxy. Maybe when I'm done I could make the call.

So if you had to choose, which one would it be and why?

EDIT: Ok I think I'll take the scores (I'm having my eyes operated today so if it's not updated, just bear with me!)

2D Mario: 20

3D Mario: 16

Oh God.

I've got 'Mario Lovers' in the Title

and

'I've been playing a lot on my Wii' at the start of the OP.

Hope I don't get banned. *gulp*

Super Mario 64 is my favorite game of all-time, so I'd rather stick with 3D Mario-games I suppose.

Thank god I don't have to make a decision like that, though :x

For me, it'd be Galaxy, I'd prefer 3D Mario over 2D. Never played NSMBW though, but I've played all other 2D Marios before it, so...
But I hugely enjoy the 2D ones too, so it's good to have both. :p But if I HAD to choose, I'd pick 3D Marios. Galaxy is absolutely fabulous. :D

3D Mario. Super Mario Galaxy was innovative, while NSMBWii didn't bring anything new into the table.

2D Mario.

Multiplayer is my thing. Without it, the two Mario's are about tied, but with it, the choice is easy.

Since I can't see a 3D Mario implementing local multiplayer as well as NSMB Wii, I don't see that ever changing.

I do prefer much of the music in Galaxy, though. While I loved most of the NSMB Wii music, I wish they ditched the old NSMB theme for something new. I mean, most of the Galaxy music was new, wasn't it? Though, I'd really love to play an epic final dungeon with the "Bowser's road" theme from Super Mario 64.

I'm with c0rd. Before nsmbwii, they would be tied. Maybe a small lead to 3d marios. With multiplayer nsmbwii, I would go 2d all the way.

Yeah the multiplayer in NSMB is hectic fun. I prefer 2-players though, but a 4-player drunk game is also a hoot.

The music in Galaxy has the "you know you're playing something special" feel. It's really epic.

3D Mario still. Galaxy truly awed me like few games ever have, though i must say that NSMBWii has absolutely perfect difficulty progression, more so than most games i've ever played

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
