1) Sean Connery
2) Moore/Craig
4) Lazenby/Dalton
6) Brosnan - This guy was just not bond. It doesn't help that the writers went stupid during his era either. (I mean an ice palace being melted by a giant beam of sunlight and an invisible car? Its nearly as stupid as Moonraker).

I like Craig, Casino Royale was a great film, and I thought Quantum of Solace was pretty good too.

Yay, I was waiting for an excuse to do this.

Casino Royale:

  • Some two people were killed in the entire movie.
  • The plotline revolved around Poker.
  • No Q
  • Daniel Craig (yes, I know, whatever)
  • Boring villain
  • If Bond loses, he's funding terrorism! Oh, heavens, no! What if he broke a nail? This guy is rich enough to host a huge poker party in a five star hotel and bid $15 million, inviting some of the most powerful people in the world. He doesn't really need much more money.

But, it was written by Ian Fleming, so can't complain, I suppose.

Quantum of Solace:

Oh dear.

  • NOT written by Ian Fleming (but then quite a few of the films aren't)
  • Ridiculously over-the-top action
  • Bond kills everything that moves, for no adequately explored reason.
  • The evil supervillain this time is trying to dominate Bolivia's water supply. Oh, dear god! What could happen if he did that? It would be catastrophic! The price of water in Bolivia could go up, and some people might be a little thirsty! DISASTER! Besides, there is already a company with a monopoly of Bolivia's water supply.
  • Villain was about as charismatic as a brick wall.
  • NO GADGETS. Except something which resembles Windows 7 Touch, oh, and a camera phone which can identify people. Futuristic stuff. Who needs lame gadgets, like a laser watch, or jam trousers?

EDIT: Interesting thing to note: from personal experience, Americans love these two, and everyone else hates them.

get over yourself, I enjoyed both films and found them entertaining.

and btw, im English...

Yes, I know you're English.

How anyone can have enjoyed either of those films, particularly the second, is beyond me. But, an opinion is an opinion.

that was kind of my point

anyway, my overall favourite Bond film is Goldeneye, have it on DVD

1. Sean Connery
2. Roger Moore
3. Pierce Brosnan
4. Timothy Dalton
5. Daniel Craig
6. George Lazenby

This thread is for you to list your favoite Bond actors 1-6 and to leave your reasons why.  It pertains to how you rank them as Bond and not their entire body of acting work ( that would be an entirely different thread).  The choices are Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.  Barry Nelson from the original television version of Casino Royale and David Niven from the Bond parody also named Casino Royale are not choices because they are not in the official Bond series.  One last point;  if you've never seen, for example George Lazenby as Bond, don't include him in your rankings.  Only rank who you know.

Okay...  Let's go.  I'm first and will start with number 6 and end with number 1.

6)  Pierce Brosnan.  I know that I will probably catch some heat for this because he is pretty popular, but I have my reasons.  He was a good Remington Steele but I just never bought him as Bond.  He seemed to be a guy acting like Bond and not Bond to me.  He portrayed the character like a mixture of Connery and Moore and never really brought his own touch to the part in my opinion.  A major problem is that his Bond appeared to care about all of the women in the movies.  Bad move.  Bond is supposed to be a pig.  Also, besides for GoldenEye, his movies were wretched and he didn't do anything to help the situation with his acting that was similar to that of a male model.  Also he looked as though he was afraid to break a nail when he threw a punch.  Just an observation.  He looked good in a tux though.  :p

5)  George Lazenby.  I have to rank him higher than Brosnan because his one movie, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, is more entertaining than all four of Brosnan's movies combined.  He was trained by Bruce Lee in martial arts so his fight choreography was tremendous and believeable.  Unfortunately, his acting wasn't that good.  Not that bad, but not that good either.  He had a few other problems.  He tried to follow Connery and this was a nearly impossible task for anyone.  His movie was a love story and had a unhappy ending.  Also, he turned down a deal to be Bond in the next seven movies because his agent told him that he would be type cast.  Worst agent ever!!!  Poor George.

4)  Roger Moore.  Moore is usually a love him or hate him type of guy for Bond fans, but for me he is somewhere in the middle.  Let me explain why.  He was more of a joke telling machine than Bond should be to me.  Don't get me wrong, I like when Bond has a clever one liner as much as the next guy, but Mr. Moore over did it.  His movies almost were almost a parody of the earlier Bond films.  This didn't bother me as much as it did some people though because I look at his character as a different person than say Connery's Bond.  This made his films entertaining to me on that level.  For example, I liked how he brought the English gentlemen feel to the character.  My one major problem is that he was too old and stiff looking when he got the part.  He started playing the character when he should have been ending.  This is why he is 127 years old in A View To A Kill.

3)  Timothy Dalton.  He followed Moore and was a shock to the system for anyone used to Roger.  He was James Bond and had no time for jokes.  His portrayal was probably the closest the James Bond in Ian Fleming's novels and this is why I liked it.  He was good in the action scenes and his acting was very solid.  The more serious and edgy direction was intriguing to me.  Unfortunately most people did not agree with me and this is why they went with the guy that I ranked number 6.

2)  Daniel Craig.  Despite a horrible Bond reboot idea, the dropping of Q and Moneypenny, and the fact that Judi Dench is M when he is promoted to 00 status even though she was introduced to Pierce Brosnan's Bond as the new M (WTF???) he makes the movies that he's in very enjoyable.  He does the most with the material that he is given and runs with it.  What I like the most about his portrayal of Bond is that he plays it his own way as though he's never seen Connery or any of the previous actors  ( I mean this in a good way).  He comes across very realistically as a man that trusts no one (no spy should) and when he hits someone, you don't question the fact that it hurts.  So far, an excellent job by Mr. Craig and I can't wait to see the rest of his movies.  My only complaints are that he isn't suave enough or enough of a smart ass.

1)  Sean Connery.  This man performed the perfect balancing act in nailing all of characteristics that make Bond.  He's athletic, intelligent,  and charasmatic.  He also definitely has a bit of arrogance to him and definitely is a womanizer.  He isn't a nice guy and doesn't want to be.  The greatest thing about him to me is when he's in a scene with a woman, you don't know if he's going to make love to her or stick a knife in her.  Also,  he is the best at delivering the one liners and comes across as being to cool to care if you feel this way.  His disregard for authority is also better conveyed by any of the other actors.  He can raise an eyebrow and say more than any of the other actors say in an entire movie.  Now that's acting!!!

Okay so that's how I feel about it.  Now rank them if you want to.

Quatam of Solace was a dissapointing follow up to Casino Royale. I've only seen a couple of Sean Connery James bond films. He was the best one in my opinion. Pierece was good to,but not as good of an actor as Sean Connery. Daniel Craig plays a good younger james bond. I like the rebel take on his performance!!!!!!!! Roger moore was good, but not as good as the rest. He was a little to old in my opinion, but solid never the less!!!!!!!!! I've never seen the Timothy Dalton movies are the one George lazenby movie!!!!!! Just my 2 cents good sir!!!!!

1) Sean Connery - he makes chest hair sexy, you can't top that.
2) Daniel Craig- more like Bond than any other actor.
3) Timothy Dalton- was Daniel Craig before Craig was Craig
4)George Lazenby- he looked kinda funny but was cool and ass kicking
5) Roger Moore- cheesy movies and he was too old to be Bond
6) Pierce Brosnan- Die Another Day (nuff said)

Casin Royale is the best Bond film. QOS was a decent followup but the script had to be rushed or else it would have been a victim of the writers strike.

Sean Connery is bond. Its as simple as that.

He was voted sexiest man of the century, and you cannot be bond without being the sexiest man of the century.

1) Timothy Dalton - Dalton managed to play a really dark and powerful Bond that was human, flawed and even vulnerable while still being Bond - nobody on this list managed that, except maybe Craig.

2) Daniel Craig - Basically Dalton, but not as good.

3) Sean Connery - While just about everything Connery does is awesome, I never really felt Connery was playing Bond. Rather, he was playing Sean Connery.

In a tux.

With chest hair.

4) George Lazenby - Didn't exactly look the part, but acted it pretty damn well - Lazenby was probably the most human Bond out of the bunch. Probably the only reason he isn't higher up is because he only did one movie.

5) Pierce Brosnan - Flat, flat, flat. Looked the part and had all the moves, but felt more like your regular spandex superhero than Bond.

6) Roger Moore - Looked, acted and felt like that weird letch of an uncle you don't talk about at family reunions. Also way too superheroic for my taste.

1. Brosnan - He's not necessarily the best actor, but I enjoyed his movies the most. They had more action then the old ones.

2. Connery - Amazing actor

3. Moore- Amazing Actor

4. Dalton - Mediocre at best

5. Lazenby - He was in 1 movie, how good could he be

6. Anybody else on earth

7. My grandmother

8. Daniel Craig - Shittiest actor ever. Hopefully the next Bond movie doesn't have 8 hours of Poker playing.
