I agree with what you said. Besides when you look at our predictions over the time we spent here they have been very similar. The only difference is i stop making threads about them because i always got lots of heat of them untill month and month down the line lol

Well now my attention is piqued.

But I think Serious_frustrating's calculations are slightly off with basing the 2 x million sales weeks on 360's 2008 performance. S_f said "With that in mind the 360 did almost 900K on the best selling week of the year without japans support. that week so happens to be the week after FF13 launch. So the PS3 japan sales will be at least 100K or around."

360's best sales week (872.5K) in holiday 2008 directly corresponds to FFXIII release week this year (WE 21/12/08 = WE 20/12/09). Why do they directly correspond? Because they are both the last shopping weekend before Christmas. So the perfect storm is created by having Others and Americas getting their peak sales week on FFXIII week in Japan. The week following FFXIII week WILL have lower worldwide sales than FFXIII release week (for all consoles not just PS3). You can expect at least a 15% drop. So PS3 neeeds to make at more than 1.15 million on FFXIII week for post FFXIII week to stay above 1 million. In 2008 360 dropped 17% and Wii dropped 33% and PS3 dropped 10%. I think the higher the peak the larger the drop. This year there is 1 more shopping day on Christmas week than last year so as BHR-3 says it will drag some sales across into that week. Also FFXIII shouldn't just have a 1 week spiking effect, it should spike sales for a few weeks at least, and then settle baseline sales at slightly above what it would otherwise be without FFXIII. 2 x million weeks isn't out of the realms of possibility, I agree, but it's a tough ask.

If 1 million in 1 week has only ever been achieved by PS2 and Wii then PS3 will truly have made the greatest console comeback in history by making a 1 million sales week. I know I'm toying with embarassment by doubting BHR-3 again, but it just seems too good to be true for it to crack 1 million twice in a single holiday season. Surely BHR-3 must be wrong occasionally, surely. PS3 may still end the generation in 3rd, but what an amazing 3rd place it will be.

@Binary I think you might have forgotten that the last day of Christmas week is Boxing day. Although I think the odds of 2 million selling weeks are not very good.

If PS3 can reach say... 350k in NA this week, 400k in Others (both gaining ~100k boost)... It would leave 250k for Japan.

Is FF13 big enough to move close to 250k consoles?...
