And now I wonder, how long Sony will have to sell PS3 under the cost of production and what M$ will do to turn the tide for their adventage, is it possible that we will see next year an Arcade for 100$ and Elite for 200$ ? 2010 will be a funny year to watch

i don't think Microsoft will make a pricecut, even if they could.

i believe they want to keep the price the same until natal launches, and then do a stealth pricecut by offereing it bundeled for the same price.

otherwise if they do a pricecut now, they would probably have to raise the price again for natal, and king customer does not approve of price hikes.

that said, it might be possible sony has turned things around now, they might be able to do their own pricecut when natal releases.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Numbers: That's why I did tell not to make a new thread about Sony's sales after every update. Someone already made a new one about the official sales, and when VGC will have it's own numbers at thursday someone will probably make another thread about PS3 BF sales and then we will have like 5-6 threads about the same topic. Lame as hell.

But they are selling PS3 still under the cost of production and they stated that they will make PS3 profitable in fiscal year 2011. Another price cut in 2010 would mean no profits for PS3 industry.

Crushed. :/

i have actually never understood why this is such a big deal in this generation, consoles have always been sold under cost of production, its not the hardware that makes a profit its the software sales.  one year is a long time, and there is always room to reduce cost for established hardware. if the slim keeps selling well, i have no doubt sony will be in a position to consider reacting to the natal with a price-cut.

of course, they had a lot of investment in the slim this year, they ain't buildt for free, and the software sales accumulated with the sold slim models did not affect the last quarter much, but Numbers should look better from now on.

i would rather like to know how much money natal development requires.
