Social and browser "games"... *shudder*

The future looks dim.

Exactly what I was thinking lmao. Maybe I wont be playing games anymore by then

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

This will happen but not in ten years. Internet speeds and capacity will need to increase at a ridiculous pace to keep up with the content and users demand. I can see home consoles being gone really quickly once it does though there just won't be a need for such expensive hardware. Everything seems to be converging into the handheld realm. All the major players have some sort of device out on the market already be it a cell phone/PMP/game machine this area will see all the major collisions with everyone wanting to be that one device in everyones pocket.

If that's what becomes of gaming - a plague of casual/oversimplfied games and digital downloads, and nothing else, I assure you that I won't be.

call me oldschool, but i want to stay with Physical media, i want to look at my games even if i am not playing. i want to look at my shelf and think - yay, just a couple more games, and i need another shelf. ^_^

:(

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

eh.... don't release Final Fantasy as DLC please, im not going to wait another 5 years for the download to finish.

^ I feel the same way and they have more value to me in physical form.

PSPGO was a bad example with bad pricing range and goal.

However, in order to combat piracy and maximize profits, digital distribution is something that Sony and Microsoft is ready to jam down our throats even if we don't want to.

i can certainly agree with yoichi wada on this situation because we are moving away from physical media and going to digital distribution. the thing is microsoft and sony are again targeting the mainstream market where they can satisfy the home entertainment portion and nintendo is trying its best to bring in the audience that doesn't play video games. nintendo will be in a physical media market for awhile and nintendo will not be hurt by this just for the simple fact its a "gaming" system rather than a central hub entertainment device.

most will probably agree with the paragraph above but that's how i see this industry facing. nintendo is in no trouble its just since music has made the transaction first to digital distribution and it has been successful i.e. itunes, rhapsody. i see the same with movies, tv shows and video games for that manner. but only not nintendo video games just for the simple fact they will always be a popular console pick in gaming stores to begin with.

if this turns out to be true, wat will happen to places like gamestop? with no hardware to sell, they might be put out of business

That will be nothing compared to the 20 year wait between the game's announcement and its release.
