Forums - Nintendo - Metroid Prime 3 > Metroid Prime?

I finally finished replaying both games (along with Echoes) in Metroid Prime Trilogy and I've decided that with the combination of less back-tracking, more variety, and better graphics, Metroid Prime 3 is better than Metroid Prime. Even with the addition of IR I still think Metroid Prime 3 is a better game.

Do you all agree?

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

I enjoy MP3's boss fights more, and the gameplay feels much tighter, even with MP1 getting the wiimote treatment (less delays in morphball shifting or switching between beam and missile). MP1 has the advantage of actually having a use for 250 missiles, while MP3 has the advantage of making incredible use of the grapple beam. The use of the gunship was a great idea that didn't follow through. It was poorly utilized after Bryyo.

It's a better game in the sense that sequels should be better than their forebears, keeping in mind that MP1 was a far more dramatic and significant leap for the franchise. I can understand why a lot of people find MP1 the best, but MP3 was my favourite.

I think we can compare the Prime trilogy to 3D Zelda... sorta.

MP1 = Ocarina of Time
MP2 = Wind Waker or Majora's Mask
MP3 = Twilight Princess

MP1 was a big jump forward for the series and is generally the most memorable.
MP2 was drastically different, which drew lots of criticism (though in this case it was gameplay, where as WW got criticism for the cell-shading) OR MP2 is remembered for being a lot more difficult and stuffs than other entries (like Majora's Mask)
MP3 is more polished, and stuffs, but because it's a sequel, it doesn't reach the same acclaim the first got.

yay?

No. No game has surpassed Metroid Prime as of yet. No game ever, anywhere.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Oh no, I actually hold the opinion that Oot is better than TP. TP is techincally superior, but there are things you can't measure with technology, like music, mythos, and time-traveling gameplay. It's not that Oot came first and was innovative (even though it was), it just does things better than TP does.

On the other hand,

I think MP3 is superior to MP due to not just it's technology but it's music, greater variety and less back-tracking.

I pretty much agree with what famousringo said, Prime 3 is my personal favourite, but I can see how other might prefer Prime 1. In any case, the 1st two games are vastly superior on Wii, except for the switching between guns/visors, which was much faster and easier on the GC, but Retro did the best they could with the limited buttons on the Remote & Nunchuk...

And Prime 2 is highly underappreciated! I'm playing through it now on Trilogy, never went much beyond that bomb ball guardian on the original, and it is FABULOUS! :)

I'm with you Griffin..Even with your Zelda preference. Generally I'd just call them equal because I loved Prime 1 as well. I try to put myself back in the mentality of when I first experienced both games. But if I had to choose one game over the other in terms of enjoyment, it would be Prime 3. Still my favorite single player experience on the Wii.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

I really had trouble getting into MP1. I can totally see the appeal for a lot of people, but the pacing and backtracking led to me taking about 3 years to finally get around to beating it. MP3 on the other hand was beaten in a weekend. So yeah, I agree.

I prefer Prime 1 because of the sense of exploration that transitioned well from the 2D Metroid. Prime 3 is an excellent game though.

Pixel Art can be fun.

I agree that Prime 1's sense of exploration is similar to Super Metroid's. I disagree to whether that sense of exploration is worse in Prime 3. IMO Prime 3 had better exploration becuase it had a more variety of worlds and less backtracking so that you were always discovering new things.
