Nope, you are not the only one not interested in that crap. FFXIII is going to suck just like FFX, FFX2, FFXI, and FFXII. Not to mention pretty much all of the crappy ass games Square Enix has made since changing from Squaresoft. Square Enix makes nothing but horrible games now. The last good Square game was FFIX. I am not sure why anyone likes any of their games anymore. I guess it is probably because all of the kids don't know how bad their games are now compared to their old school games since they never got to play those. Having played every Square game dating back to the original NES and FFI, I have to say that Square is a horrible developer now. Their masterpiece was FFVII and they will never even come close to matching it. The only good JRPG for the last 5-6 years is Lost Odyssey. Everything else is complete crap that can't compare to the SNES and PS1 RPGS...

Well, i'm same age as you and i love every iteration of Final Fantasy since part IV. I played IV (was the game of my life) when i was 12, VI when i was 14. Played Final Fantasy VIII before VII , and i prefer VIII. Played V after, and liked it very much. Final Fantasy IX was good but was a mixed bag. Final Fantasy X was good but not so good as VIII. Final Fantasy X-2 was a very fun game to play, when i finished i started again to complete 100% of the game. Final Fantasy XI i didn't play but i'm looking forward to XIV. Final Fantasy XII was a very, very fun game to play, i prefer it against X. So much content that was my first Final Fantasy that i played more than 200 hours. Final Fantasy VII was a masterpiece in terms of marketing and trying too hard to reach western tastes. They achieved it. I think they will try to do that with part XIII: Szah = Barret, Lightining = Cloud, Snow = Tifa, Serah = Aeris, avalanche of information before the game, steampunk themes, sci-fi environments, localized song. I certainly will enjoy the game (there will be much content like all final fantasies) independent of story told.
And let's not forget : in Snes rpgs you used more imagination than anything else to fulfill the story. Perhaps you will be more satisfied reading a book than playing video games in this time and age. :) I love the art behind the development of video games.
