i think Ms is at more advantage and at the same time more closer to a big disadvantage here. If natal succeeds in offering high precession controls without a controller ,MS should be prepared for more Dough.Like wise for Sony however even if Wand is a moderate success Sony will recover its Dev cost .However lets assume both Natal and WAND fails then i think MS's loss and embarrassment will be more epic than Sony's.
What say people??

Ummm, what?  You have me confused....

He's basically saying it could go either way, which is really the normal reaction considering how ambiguous Natal is at this point.

I have really no opinion on it yet, but I do find it very interesting how controlled the PR environment around it is. Maybe it has to do with the fact it's not completed, and will be even more amazing. But then, maybe not.

We shall see.

Any pre-judgement at this point, good or bad, is a wild guess or hunch. Beyond propaganda, there's nothing quite there yet.

I don't think its all propaganda because there has been a lot of people who have had access to some of the prototypes, ala Pop Science etc....

I can't wait till we get more information on it.  Then we can better decide how its going to turn out.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

so many unknowns..

1. how much will natal cost?
2. how much will buying a 360 + natal cost?
3. what software is going to release and will it be any good?
4. specifically, how casual friendly will the software be?
5. this time next year nintendo will have something like 90M units sold. will a casual (who is defined by their lack of commitment to video games) really buy a second system regardless?
6. what is nintendo bringing to the market for next holiday? or sony for that matter.
7. how badly is sony's wand going to fail?

Okey - personally i don't think you will win your prediction. I think MS will see at least some success with natal, certainly more then sony will with the wand. ...but to place MS on top of both the wii and the ps3 for the rest of the generation? that's a pretty high standard for success.

I'd like to see what kind of software they have planned before making any predictions... having said that this one is obviously on the extreme end.

Not to mention the price and "bundling" of Natal are still unknown ...

A $60 Project Natal add-on and Game will sell much differently than a $300 stand-alone Project Natal add-on; and I would personally expect it to be $150 to $200 with a game which would mean that  the game would have to be as important as a Guitar-Hero/Rockband to see sales in the 10 Million range, and those would mostly go to people who already own an XBox 360.

I find it amusing that the only reason people claim NATAL is going to fail is "I don't like Microsoft" and "The unit is a gimmick"

I thought we were hearing the same things about the Wii controllers?

You need to realize that casual audience also = hype audience. And there's a lot of hype to this train.

To me, it is absolutely absurd that this thread gets mostly mocked while threads consisting of people believing PS3 will overtake the 360 get a lot of support. Microsoft could even penetrate the Japanese audience IF they market the unit correctly.

Throw my name on for support of this.

Most people think Natal will succed and PS Wand will fail or both will fail. Most of the time the most people are wrong if the situation is unclear as it is right now, so I think PS Wand>Natal. Because I cant see yet that Natal will deliever what it promises. And even if Natal will be good it will NEVER beat Nintendo in the disciplin they inventent. Which of them will be more succesful depends on the marketing and the Software. But Europe (except UK) is lost for Microsoft it is already half a million behind the PS3. And it started almost 1 1/2 years before the PS3. And Japan is lost too, so the only area which is left is the US but will this be enough to put the Xbox360 above the PS3 WW ? I dont think so.

I will wait ofcourse for the first Informations about upcoming games to make my final conclusion.

There's industry buzz behind Natal, not so much with Swand. And the latter launches in just 3-4 months, which is worrying. I'm also shocked it hasn't gotten another retail announcement beyond a recycled RE5, while Natal is rumored to be getting around 14 launch games.

Nah, I think it's a stretch to predict Natal will make 360 outsell Wii. Though it COULD happen.

I think it will give 360 a huge push though, and give it a major edge on PS3. Imagine you're an average consumer not that into video games, you can buy a 360 that comes with Natal or a PS3, that probably wont have any motion control at all packed in. You'll probably choose the 360 on curiosity alone.
