Question for the veterans:

Assuming this does come to NA, is it a better game than the SNES version? Which one should a noob play first?

This depends on who you ask, but for my money this kicks the living Hell out of the SNES version. As for which is better to play first... uh...

Well

I don't know. Maybe Kasz or noname will be able to answer.

Hm... I thought i posted to this but my post didn't show up.

I'd say it depends on you.

Think of a time you played a game like Mario 3 and then played it's predecessor like the original SMB.

The N64 version has a lot more added on to the combat system and such.  Combo attacks, flanking and rear attacks, multiple items system instead of only 1 equip item....

The big pro of the SNES version is it's easier to tell what kinda ending you'll get.

That and it's longer... or it feels that way.

It's simplier however the N64 version does a better job explaining itself.

There are reocurring characters in 64 but they do a good enough job explaining themselves.

In short i'd start with 64... unless your afraid it being better will hurt the expierence of the SNES version.

Okay

So

.....High Chaos Frame or Low Chaos Frame for the next run-through? I don't think I've ever had Biske in my army, because it means giving up Ankiseth.

Back when I played this game on N64, I never understood the whole Chaos Frame mechanic.  I was pretty new to SRPG's then.

I can't wait to play this game again.  After having become a seasoned SRPG fan, I can honestly say this was the best one I ever played.  Even beating out that last two Fire Emblems.

Also, to game veterans like Khuutra and noname:

I'd love for you guys to explain how to walk the path of righteousness in Ogre Battle 64 so I won't get cast off and shunned like a bloody conquerer at the end of the game. The two times I finished it, I got ZERO Chaos Frame. I believe it has something to do with liberating towns instead of capturing - which is based on unit alignment. I never played it a third time due to my N64 controllers going missing years ago.

I love Ogre Battle 64 so much!

I'll also be buying this first day if it releases in the US, even though I own the N64 cart. I've already played through it like ten times, and wouldn't mind going through it a few dozen more times. Maybe more.

I bought the SNES version on VC afterward and was pretty disappointed. It felt like playing OB 64 with worse graphics, almost no story, no interesting characters, and drastically downgraded gameplay. Maybe playing the SNES version first gives you a different impression?

For the record guys - Ogre Battle > Tactics Ogre

That is all.

Yeah, that's correct... I looked it up myself after doing everyething the "good" way and being screwed.

Basically have a high alignment unit, Low alignment unit and a "nuetral" unit.

Try to match the morale of the town with the alignment of your unit.

Free good towns with good guys, and evil towns with evil guys.

Or at least that's how i remember it... you've got like a 15-20 point difference.

That and don't take Nuetral towns.

@Kasz216:

But what about when you have 5 units in squad with different alignments? I can be hard to gauge exactly how they are aligned collectively. Have you had that problem?

In my opinion, it's better in all but one way. But it's also much more complex: if the original is like flying a jet, the sequel is like flying the space shuttle. That said, I would suggest playing the 64 version first, primarily because the more modern presentation makes it less arcane for new players (the original has lots of plot, characters, and game mechanics, but never explains any of them). Just ask someone who's played the game before to explain the more hidden features, and you'll be good.

Kasz pretty much summed it all up. The only thing I would add is that your story-related decisions don't seem to affect your Chaos Frame much, if at all, anymore.
