Forums - Gaming Discussion - HD is to Wii as PC is to HD

Wow just wow. This is full of fail. God hope you don't compare the PC to the Wii. If the HD twins are that much superior to the Wii the PC must be godlike compared to the Wii. The HD consoles are a simpler more casual PC style gaming machine. The Wii is a casual console geared towards the family. Simple as that. I actually think Live is much better than playing online on PC. All the patches and updates that need to be downloaded on a regular basis for a PC are annoying.

Vlad, you have got to be fucking kidding me.

So I coudn't help but notice some things on this oard which everyone keeps repeating, even me, whether it's true or not. So after looking over them I couldn't help but notice a pattern going relating all the platforms so here I will presents the biggest arguments someone has against their rival platforms.

HD vs. Wii

Arguments against Wii:

- Subpar graphics

- Lack of good controls

- Lack of good core games

- Horrible online

- Subpar small games releases

- Shovelware and games which barely iterate and bring anythign new to the scene, dumbed down games

Arguments against HD:

- Lack playing locally on many games (anti-social)

- Too costly

- Too complex to play because of installs, updates, patches, hardware failures (lack of plug and play)

PC vs HD

Arguments against HD:

- Subpar graphics

- Lack of good controls

- Lack of good games

- Horrendous online (you even have to pay for it on some systems)

- Subpar small games releases

- Games which barely iterate and bring anything new to gaming, dumbed down games

- Lack of online communities

- DLC should be free

Arguments vs PC:

- Lack playing locally on many games (anti-social)

- Too costly

- Too complex to play because of installs, updates, patches, hardware failures

Comments, corrections, additions and anything else is welcome.

nope you summed the stupidity of it nicely.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

It might just be my poor PC maintenance, but it seems as if all the "updates and patches"-speeches towards the PC are just something people think the PC requires, but actually really don't know much about. Its just something that's stuck in the back of their head from whatever bad experience they've had. Or it might be that they confuse the optional and open accessibility to customize, with something that is required for it to function?

I formated my computer about 9 months ago to get a partition harddrive for my OS. And i've never had to do install a required patch, firmware or update since then. Everything is automatic and runs in the background without hindering any work in progress via Microsoft Update. Ive had 2-3 "mandatory" firmware installs for my PS3 though, during the same time span.

You do know that your PC reboots at night to install those updates right ?

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

It dosen't actually.. kinda hard to reboot something if it's shut down. And any reboots can be sent to "reboot later", and a reboot is the same as power down when you go to sleep and turn it back on the next day. It's all automatic. And your comment kinda proves my thoughts on the matter. You're oldschool! :D

I haven't had an update that required a reboot in ages.

There is usually at least one update per day, but it's almost always just definitions updates for Windows Defender. Seldom is there anything else.

DLC ain't free on the PC either, my Wow DLC cost me 14.99$ a month, and oh, I have to pay to play online !!!!!

And oh, it's only the most played game ever on the PC.....

If PC is so great why won't my Mass Effect runs on my rig when Wow runs perfectly...( and it's not like Wow is a small niche game..)

You say you're know about PC and PC games, but if you don't even know the reason why World of Warcraft (and any other big MMO) has a subscription-based model, you must be out of your mind.

And don't even compare the crappy DLC that consoles get with what PC games get. PC gamers get for free almost all DLC that console gamers pay for.

But let's talk about WoW. Despite the obvious reasons as to why it has subscriptions (servers costs) Blizzard also releases every month new content worth atleast $20 what you pay for DLC in console games. Then they also have the patience to make new events every month, like carnivals and festivities around holidays and such, again with even more new content. Then they keep releasing updates and patches in order to improve the game even more.

Do you see where your reasoning has gone wrong? $10 for 3 maps?! HAHA!

You know, about Mass Effect, illegal copies do tend to increase compatibility issues. Not accusing, but you don't seem to have Mass Effect in your profile.

What about stuff like Virus ?
Conveniently forgot to mention it eh ?
Or the fact that yeah PC have mods and steam but how many PC users actually use those ?
Heck, why the F*** would I use Steam to launch wow, none of the people I played wow with for 3 years ever did...
PSN and Xboxlive come out of the box...

You don't get viruses from games. When a PC gets a virus, it's usually the fault of the user because he went to places he shouldn't have gone to.

A huge amount of PC gamers install mods. I don't know a single PC gamer that has never played a mod or custom map, to my knowledge.

Dude, skype, teamspeak, msn, aim, meebo, steam, etc... pick your damn poison.

PSN and Xboxlive are crap compared to Steam.

Last i checked the PS3 had better games then the PC released and to be released in the future

No, it doesn't. But that's subjective.

PC vs HD

Arguments against HD:

- Subpar graphics: Yh i will give you that one

- Lack of good controls: Sorry but for most genrest the PS3 controller is superior then the mouce and keyboard. Unless you mean use a gamepad with some games. And you do realise the PS3 supports mouce and keyboard in its games?

Are you joking?! PC supports hundreds of gamepads in thousands of games. PS3 supports Mouse+Keyboard in a couple of games... And Mouse+Keyboard is far superior to gamepads, and the only choice for proffessional gamers.

- Lack of good games: The mind boggles. I really hope this isnt your opinion and you are just generalizing what a PC fanboy would say when they are bitching about why a certain console has gotten a game they have not got on pc.

You call him a fanboy yet you deliberately attack him by generalizing that PC fanboys actually care about what they don't get on PC, which is a generalization on your part.

- Horrendous online (you even have to pay for it on some systems): The online you and i are used to for the PC seems to be going the way of the dodo. And the online for consoles is crap how?

And how is it going to the way of the dodo? PC's online gaming has been the staple of online gaming for decades, and still continues to be. Infinity Ward tried to bring console online to PC with Modern Warfare 2, but now they're suffering because of it. The sales of MW2 on PC have dropped like a rock.

- Subpar small games releases: Wait wait what? And the pc doesnt? Oh please i have seen more then enough pc games that i wouldnt even give to charity.

The difference is that PC has far, far more quality indie games than all consoles combined.

- Games which barely iterate and bring anything new to gaming, dumbed down games: Oh really. Ok then. So i guess you never heard of GT

If you want to be picky, Gran Turismo has been considered by many console gamers a racing simulator, but if it's compared to the true racing simulators that exist on PC, GT would be a crappy simulation game.

- Lack of online communities: Yh i will give you that. Because it aint an online community. You are playing against your real life friends online. So that aint really an online community because its your local community playing with you online ;)

Try playing with complete strangers, but from around your area. Then build a community around them in the game. Tell me how you can do that on consoles.

- DLC should be free: Yh i will give you that. but i am sure some DLC are starting to go for the pay route

Newsflash, DLC has existed for years, in the form of expansions. The big difference is that the crappy DLC you pay for in console games is usually free on PC. Expansions give a far greater value.

Arguments vs PC:

- Lack playing locally on many games (anti-social) Yh

- Too costly: I dont think it is

- Too complex to play because of installs, updates, patches, hardware failures: Thats probably right

Comments, corrections, additions and anything else is welcome.

I marked what i said in red.

And about the HD consoles not having games. I am sure it was only yesterday when lots of PC gamers were bitching about MAG. saying that it should have been made for the PC instead. Yh the HD consoles aint got no games

Replied a few.

Can't play on the couch unless you hook up your PC to your TV which renders the PC useless for anything besides gaming.

PC is always getting late ports of games that were out on console 6 months to a year before.

Consoles have way better exclusives then PC.

Can't buy PC games used or trade them in.

Huh?! You can easily do all the other stuff on PC in a TV. As long as you have a capable HDTV, you're fine.

Those late ports also get released $20 cheaper and with extra stuff that console gamers would have to pay for.

Consoles don't have better exclusives than PC, but this argument is highly subjective, so let's drop this one.

You can buy used PC games and sell them. You can also trade them in, but very few stores allow that.

Steam is far better than Xbox Live, and it's completely free. Also, do you know why there aren't many patches and updates in XBL? It's because Microsoft forces developers to pay money if they want to patch their game more than once. That's why Valve didn't release the dozens of updates with hundreds of free contents on the Xbox 360 version, while PC got all that stuff for free.

I guess making a thread about stereotypes only invites people to repeat the stereotypes...
