Fair enough, can we just agree that after Apocalypse the game started going down the drain though?

Oh yeah, absolutely. Apocalypse was the last X-Com strategy game - it's probably best for everyone to think it was the last X-Com game as well.

I lol'd

X-COM really did everything right. It's so big and had so much to do, but without being awkward and scaring you away.

Were you guys mind control guys or Blaster Launcher guys, or more into Hover Plasma Tanks?

Sometimes I like to go all lazer rifles. Everybody's super weak, but we can get a billion shots off during a turn.

I'm mostly an MC guy, but occasionally I do a MC-free run or two - just because a properly trained Psi-Corps unit breaks the challenge and scatters its remains to the wind. Seriously - you see one alien, control it, run around, control everyone that alien sees, etc. Blasters are just really messy - I only use them in emergencies or creating alternate entrances to big UFOs.

With tanks, I actually prefer plain old Laser Tanks - cheap, a big gun, and easy to replace since they don't cost a buttload of Elerium to build. While Hovertank/Plasmas are the best vehicles around, they are costly as hell - and can still break after a single Heavy Plasma bolt, if the RNG hates you. And it always does.

Hey, Laser Rifles are awesome. They'd be even better if the game stopped trying to drown you in Heavy Plasma guns/clips after a few months.

Has anyone actually ever used Lightnings for anything? I've never actually seen anyone building or using one.

To make this on-topic again.

Nintendo also gets what an expansion is and what a sequel is. Look at their main mario games, Mario Kart, zelda etc. Look at what happened when SSBB came out simply because it was so similar to SSBM. Which is hilarious because the content difference between SSBM and SSBB is nearly infinitely greater than Halo 2 ->3 or MW1 ->2, etc.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I consider the Wii to be the only true console this generation, everything else is a half-assed PC with mostly half-assed games.

What content difference am I missing in Mario Kart Wii and the Pokémon series then?

The sad part about this is, is I can actually agree with you about the PC comment somewhat. It is sad when consoles lose uniqueness that they had generations ago to focus on something the PC had years ago (Graphics and Online). Recently I think PS3 is trying to reintroduce themselves as unique and hopefully they gain sales for doing that.

Anyways my main beef with L4D2 is the simple really, that it is expansion or sequel to L4D, one of my three regretful full price purchases this generation.

I find a lot of difference between Double Dash and Wii to be honest. Far more than Halo 2 and Halo 3 to be sure. Can't tell you about PokeMon, have't played Pokemon since Pokemon Crystal.

Do't forget what other advantages they lost this generation:

-Installations

-Bug-free games out of the box

-Low hardware failure

-plug and play (how many games require installations now?)

-no need for system updates

-sequels that were actually sequels

Instead they gained something that I can't even call half-assed online, since it's much worse than a half-assed online, and better graphics, which only leads studios to down millions in development so they are forced to rehash they games endlessly and hope customers don't wisen up.
