Forums - Nintendo - Anyone else disappointed in SMBWii?

I haven't found anything to complain about yet. Single player is fun and harder than the DS version, which I like. Multiplayer is actually harder and a lot of fun.

Jumping was slightly different, but I'm used to it now and my single player game is only on world 2-6 w/ 100% thus far conquered.

There's always going to be some people that are dissappointed in any given game, it's natural and means you are a mature gamer that doesn't necessarily buy into the hype. Play a bit more though, you might find you get used to the physics or it grows on you.

This Mario is fantastic!! single is wonderful but 2, 3 or 4 players is as good as Mario Kart online it is an utterly amazing piece of software

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

A bit, yes. Mario's physics are closer to LittleBigPlanet than Super Mario World, and that kind of kills the game for me. Gameplay is just much too "floaty".

Graphics, sound, multiplayer, it's all there and done very well. But it just doesn't feel right.

I would say it feels more like the 2d sequences within Mario Galaxy, especially with wall jumping.

Watch some of the super skills videos in the castle at the beginning of the game, especially the one in the first fortress. Mario's got some moves.

I agree with the physics 100%... it feels like Mario has definitely been putting on some weight lately, as he's not quite as quick on his feet as he was in Mario 3 and World, and his regular jumps aren't quite up to snuff as they were in previous games as well.

And the one thing that really bugged me about the game, especially in later stages where precision is key, is the hit detection... normally in the old-school Mario games, as long as you are above the enemy for the most part, you'll stomp his ass 99.9% of the time, but in NSMB Wii, there were many instances where if I landed just a bit off center on an enemy, especially with the para-troopas and bullet bills, it would register as a hit against Mario.

Oh... and the swimming sucks big hairy balls in this game too... it's like they went back to the really awkward swimming in Mario 1 and not the perfectly controlled swimming of 3 and World.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I didn't expect to hear anybody complaining about hit detection. I was bouncing off bullet bills and paratroopas like they were trampolines built for my enjoyment. And some of the super skills videos are just ridiculous with jumping precision.

Mario's speed is plenty fine in all the levels, just push the directional pad to the left the entire time, and have fun dodging the waves of enemies. And every stage is so intricately designed that it can be played in full speed.

Everything has definetely been slowed down in this game, perhaps to ease the chaos that might erupt with 4 players.

I found the hit detection to be a little easier in this one.  In some cases I felt as if I would die and ended up stomping the enemy instead.

Swimming, I'll agree, is not as precise as it was in earlier games. Overall, there seems to be a lack of precision when playing this game. Maybe it's just the extra animations, but it feels "bouncier" than SMB3 or World.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just takes some getting use to.

wow a thread that actually critic New super mario bros Wii for what it is :D, yes the game definetly feel floaty and slow, and thats a dissapointment u_u, its a good game overall and multiplayer is full of lol´s, but it just doesnt feel as polished as other 2d mario games, especially my favorite Super Mario World, the physics, animations, speed and design of that game are Awesome!, and mmmm yeah everything just feels unpolished, like the graphics could be better like galaxys 2d secuences, or like in brawl or meele in the Story mode in the mario levels, the koopas and goombas and the world felt so cool!
