Final Fantasy comes to the rescue again!

MH is NOT a RPG.....and ROF has taken that role( way better appeal than FF)
@Xxain
ROF will NOT outsell FF13 in the west
unless SEGA gives it a FF7 level marketing!

@xxain
then what does it have to do xxain?
selling 1 - 2 million isn't gonna "open doors for JRPG's" in the west
it will HAVE to be a breakout

That is not true. And I am not saying that we should ignore handhelds, I am saying that this particular article is about home console jRPGs, so lets stick to discussing those.
jRPGs are still dominant on handhelds, which is not surprising considering how little wRPGs handhelds have (I can't even name 5 of them) But on home consoles it's a different story, there is not a single jRPG that sold even remotely close to Fallout 3 or Oblivion, and there is a general disinterest in jRPG games amongst American/European gamers.
@Rei
FF13 will bring the JRPG audience to PS3, then DQX to wii
after that you'll se many more successful JRPG's on those systems
it will be a catalyst
The question is...
WHY do JRPG's need momentum again. What has caused them to LOSE momentum.
Why haven't they been selling as well as previous gens?

Am I the only one skeptical about FF13? Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about it, I will surely buy it, but it seems EVERYONE I know that's talking about it think it's going to be one of the best games they've (SE) ever made. SE has been really hit or miss with me lately, in the past, I'd buy/rent every game they make. Not so true anymore.
They've long lost a place on my 'Buy every game from these developers' list (which is now only Bioware and Blizzard).
