I heard that Vista is usually about 3 FPS faster and in certain (rare) cases even more than 15 FPS faster.
However I have no problem running any game on the highest possible settings (well except for Crysis) so I don't care about 3 FPS more or less.

Well the reason I don't like 7 is because IT IS Vista. It's Microsoft's way of repackaging it to get rid of the tainted name of Vista, and all they really did was change the start bar, which I don't like one bit. I don't notice any performance increase, faster loading, etc, my pc was already fast at all that.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

Looking forward to it Prite.

My specs are:

4gb DDR3 1600
i5 750
260 GTX Core 216
750w Corsair PS
1tb Sata
22" 1680x1050 monitor

Excuse the monitor though, I got it 4-5 years ago when 22" was the first reasonably priced large LCD, hence the lack of 1080p.

Just a basic gaming PC.

That's a pretty solid build.

I just upgraded last week because I got an awesome deal (was going to hold out until after finishing uni but a great deal is a great deal).

No probs with the monitor - I'm in the same boat with regards to that.

Leaving work now - looking forward to attempting to convince you to stay with Windows 7

I'm not a big PC game fan more of a console gamer myself

but I play sometimes

I am a loyal SONY fan and will always be.

I am also a PS1, PS2, PS3 and a PSP owner.

I'm really starting to wonder about you...

Anyways, they added a ton of new features. Improved aeros from being lame to being cool.

Mattering where you get your reviews for the OS there is no more than a +/-3% difference. When Vista was launched the performance was HORRID. With SP2 its actually decent. SP1 actually did a decent amount of improvements for Vista, but more in terms of multithreading. Windows 7 SP1 is already in the works, Windows 7 is already a vast improvement over Vista, so SP1 should solve any slight issues like memory leaks and performance differences that you seem to think is such a vast number even though its maybe 4FPS higher or lower then Vista SP2.

Thank you for explaining it in English ssj12 and if it's actually better or not.

well i'm fine with 7.  i like vista and 7 over xp.  and yea i dont' notice any difference in speed at all, was super fast before with xp, super fast with vista, adn still super fast with 7.

there are a couple of thijgs i like with 7.

1. the drag window to side, and another window to other side for doing two things.  Its just nice and quick instead of having to size them yourself.

2. in same sense you just drag to top and it maximizes, and drag down to size before.  (sure buttons on top right do that, but getting used to the dragging thing due to #1.

3. the shuffle of many wallpapers you can have.  its like having a slideshow/screensaver on at all times while still doing stuff.

and yea for games i guess its supposed to be like 3-5 fps faster or something, but hell games are faster on my comp than any console games fps anyway so who cares abotu 3 fps.  But I have noticed that there is a less memory leak with 7.  I usedto have to worry abotu saving quite often in vista due to potential game closing due to memory leak.  But now it never happens.  THere is still some memory leak, but all it does is slow the game down a bit to make it laggy, so i just save, close and restart.  Takes like 2 minutes to do, kind of annoying still, but only have to do it once every couple hours.  which in that sense it most of the time leaves me to take a break or quit for the day.  so its almost a good thing, so i dont'get stuck gaming for tooo long.

What ssj12 said is pretty much the biggest advantage Windows 7 has over Windows Vista. Windows 7 vastly improves memory management and multi-threading. In some cases it has been shown that Windows 7 performs 5% faster with a dual-core, 10% faster with a quad and up to 20% faster with an 8 core processor. (http://www.infoworld.com/d/windows/windows-7-multicore-how-much-faster-325).

In that test it does show Vista get slightly higher scores but again Windows 7 still has time to mature its drivers and to be on par with Vista right at release (after 2 service packs) is quite a feat. In addition they also show how Windows 7 is more energy efficient. I doubt that's much of a concern to those of us with rigs but it's still an advantage. More to come as I find it. I had a ton of articles saved on my old comp but have to search for them all again now. I can spout facts that I remember but I'd also like to provide the proof behind it. :)

Also CaseyDDR, you are kind of correct that under the hood Vista and Windows 7 are fairly similar but Windows 7 incorporates a ton of tweaks for greater efficiency and is also more capable of fully utilizing newer hardware and technological advancements due to these tweaks.

For gaming, there isn't any advantage for one OS over the other, really.

Though Win7 on the whole is a better operating system.
