Forums - Gaming - Hidden paid DLC game modes found inside MW2

Are you sure the full game is there or just the initial entry points for what Activision planned on releasing later. Obviously future DLC was planned for early as you need to make the code extension-able. However, that doesn't mean it is fully written and included on disc already.

^^^@ Onyx, I was thinking of that, too. It may have been free.

I predict that in the future, ALL online modes are going to be regulated by some sort of registration system. Offline will be fine but online multi-player will be exclusive to retail. Remember this post.

Actually I was thinking that this may be just like a bundle of other games on the PC with hidden files that weren't meant to get out. Maybe there's balancing issues in these game modes, or they didn't test well with closed audiences, but it's not like this would be the first time hidden files got discovered that weren't meant to get out and are nothing more than discarded content.

Unless of course everyone's still wondering when Rockstar is going to begin charging for that hidden Hot Coffee DLC in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Now I'm not saying this isn't going to be paid DLC, but Activision has already stated they were making map packs for the game and haven't alluded to any other paid content as of yet. There seems to be an awful lot of people jumping the gun here, considering there must be numerous games out there on the PC with hidden code just like this.

Activision wants you to pay $10 for 3 maps that a single modder can do in just a day. This tells me that Activision and Infinity Ward are not to be trusted.

How many modders are there then? I would expect to see a thousand maps by now, all of the utmost quality.

Anyways, I don't have to defend my position. I'm merely offering alternatives here, and far more likely ones. You're the one that jumped the gun. If this happens to be paid for DLC, I'm not incorrect. If it's not DLC, then you're 100% wrong. I know it's a hat you wear comfortably though.

Tell me shio, how many games on the PC that you know of had discarded content hidden in the files? Just wondering since you're the more knowledgeable PC gamer.

To be fair, they might not have MADE the game modes yet, just set it up for the interfaces to exist.

There are many great modders that drastically improve the game they're modding. Just look at Oblivion, which becomes a totally different and much better experience after a few mods in.

there are PC games that do have discarded content hidden (Vampire - the Masquerade: Bloodlines comes to mind), but that happens either because they simply don't have the time/budget to keep those in, or they're not balanced for it. There's a third option for Activision, which is making that content DLC and make us pay for it.
I doubt Infinity Ward had a time/budget limitation, so it must be one of the other 2 options. IW's last decisions tell me they are profit-driven, which caused them to remove dedicated servers so that there could be no mod support. 3 full game modes being wiped out of the game tells me that this could very well be another profit move.

Unfortunately for them, PC gamers aren't as gullible as console gamers when it comes to paid DLC.

I'm not talking about Oblivion. I'm talking about Modern Warfare 2. You just stated that a modder could make the same 3 maps that Infinity Ward will make in a day. Now I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you meant one of those maps in one day and not all three in one. So prove it. Stop talking out of your ass and show me this huge modding effort that can get quality maps out in 24 hours. I'm not saying modders can't do wonderful things. I'm sure they can. I just know that they are no more talented than the people making maps at Infinity Ward, and those official maps in the game I'm sure take more than 24 hours to make.

Secondly, my problem with you is that you wouldn't acknowledge the possibility of it being discarded content. It's such a common occurrence in PC games that I figured it might cross yours or someone else's mind before I had to interject midway into this thread to put it out there. You posted a topic that point blank states that this WILL be paid DLC, and you've yet to prove so. Your video isn't proof either. It's proof there is content in the files, but I've yet to see your proof that Activision is planning on even releasing the content, let alone make people pay for it. What this does is spread rumors around the forum perpetrated as fact when it's anything but that.

Your final sentence doesn't make any sense.

Can shio show us the maps he's made in a day?

I remember the last mod I did way back in the day for Civilization 2 on PC. Took me about 30 man-hours for a complete scenario. Once it was done, it was about as good as the official scenarios.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I wouldn't put anything past Activision (oh, how I dislike that company) but I'll reserve judgement until they, you know, release something.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

Modders are no different than people who work to make games.

Modders services and work are free (most of them), while game devs are part of the original game.

I wouldnt put this past Activision. They really screwed up their top tier games (Starcraft II no lan support for one) Charging for on disc DLC would definitely not be out of character for them. But ill wait and see what happens before i start accusing them.

Long Live SHIO!

This will probably be included with the spring map pack.
