But if you dont have the data for PS1 you cant make conclusions just because of Japan its a completly different market. Not comparable to the rest of the World.

That the PS3 and the PS2 are not extremly far away. The difference is under 40% and if you subtract those 40% from 138 Mio you get a bigger number then 60 Mio.

The whole data comparison is worthless. because this situation is unique nothing is like in the previous generations. And because of the PS1 if you have data we can talk about it but i remember I read something even here which said that the PS1 and PS3 had pretty similar sales I will search for it.

If you look though, you'll see that the gap between PS2 and PS3 is growing over time.

Yeah because the price was extreme in the beginning it had even the same selling speed like PS1 and 2 but the price slowed down it extremly. And the gap is not becoming wider by a bigger margin then the 40%. The sales have to decline but they are getting even bigger. It growed because there was no pricecut. You wont be able to deny the fact that the PS3 market position is not the same as it was 1 year ago. It has changed and you will see this very soon.

Ofcourse the gap was getting bigger between PS3 and PS2. Thats nothing special thr gap has to be in the End around 60 Million consoles because the PS3 would be 40% down. If it were not growing the PS3 would be just 20 Million under the PS2 in the End the gap has to grow until its 60 Million.

And if you look you will see that the PS3 even picked up steam so the gap is not growing as quick as it once was. But ofcourse the Gap HAS to grow so the PS3 can be down by a big number.

The PS3 numbers are irrelevant after that numbers the PS3 would have around 85 Million LTD. The sales gap would be 55 Million.

Correct, the PS3 sold 27 million (September) while the PS1 sold 22.5 million taking equal timeframes.

To stay ahead the PS3 needs to sell 28.20 million by the end of this year, of course that's no problem at all.

that's what i meant the 360 is the reason the ps3 is not getting the 3rd party support it used to, if the 360 wasn't here its entire fanbase would be on the ps3 and so would the 3rd party support. the only thing keeping the ps3 back was the 360........ being cheaper. from what im getting you really think think 3rd partyies would suppport the wii. They should be supporting the wii now no? They have the largest market share, the higest selling games of all time, and a hugh install base...... but no 3rd party support why, because its not a game console, for gamers....... jesus is it really that hard. Look the amount of gamers who own the wii as a game console is 2x as small as the the gamecube. only thing keeping wii in this division is the name nintendo........

^No the 360 is the only reason the PS3 is getting the third party support it is getting, because without it, PS3's base is too small.

If not for the 360, the third parties would be supporting the Wii, because the PS3 base is too small for the third parties, the PS3+360 base is slightly larger than the Wii however, but seperately, they aren't anywhere near the Wii's size, which is why so many multiplats are made

If there were no 360 the PS3 would have 57 Mio Sales until now. Because Xbox360 user want HD and FPS good Graphics good Online the Wii is no alternative to the Xbox360. And if the Xbox360 would have never existed then the market would have been devided between Sony and Nintendo and Nintendo would have the slightly smaller piece of the pie.

So PS3 would be the leader and would probably outdo the PS2 sales because Xbox360+PS3> PS2 in a comparable time frame.

^Nope, because without the 360, PS3 would have been launched even higher priced, at the time they didn't consider Nintendo a threat, So Sony sales would have been even worse.

Even at its $600 price tag, Sony wouldn't have benefited much from the absence of a 360 as the price and lack of games at launch would have kept sales down, Wii on the other hand would have sold as it did, as a result, Developers would have had to go to the Wii, because of its sales, because the PS3 base would have been small still and it would have been expensive to develop for, and due to the much smaller install base of the PS3 and no 360 to help share the multiplats, the PS3 would have seen even less support resulting in even fewer sales. So PS3 would probably be even worse off than it is. Having the 360 allowed PS3 to see games even though at its price its sales were terrible, and its expensive to develop for.

But that's not what I was saying, I wasn't saying no MS console, I said no 360, if MS released a different console radically different from the 360, so games from the 360 and PS3 couldn't be shared, a similar thing would have happened, becuase developers would not be able to share multiplats between the PS3 and 360, the PS3 would have seen lower support and sales.
