I really like the Tales system too, but it's action-based and not turn based, so it's not included in the definition I made in my previous comment.
Of course, I like Action-based better than turn based, and WRPG more than JRPG, but if the system has to be turn based, I just can't stand games that do stuff like the Active time system of FFVIII, I hate that system, it just makes things complicated for no reason what so ever.
What works in turn based RPG's is the pokémon or FF1 and phantasy star formula of having things simple with Mana or PP with wich to use skills, and then just having simple turns. Anything that's more complicated than that is just unnecessary.
