Forums - General - How long do you think someone should study for the SATs?

I take the SATs on December 5. I have been looking over the book for awhile now. I just want to know exactly how long should you prepare for the SATs to get a really high score?

I'm really trying to get like a 1700 on this SAT i'm taking in december.

Just study 1 hour a day, 2-3 during Weekends.

Make sure you have variety. Don't just study the subject in the same manner.

@Akvod, thanks. I'm gonna try to look over the material as much as possible in every way I can. I got a bad score on my first SATs but I plan on scoring high as long as I do really well on my essay and math section.

i didn't study at all for mine

i don't see how studying helps for these...?

Here's a video from my band's last show Check out more (bigger) videos here http://www.youtube.com/user/icemanout

Studying helps with the ACTs a lot more than it does the SATs - I'm not sure how much is appropriate, because I never studied for the SATs.

Don't want to discourage you from studying but the truth is, it is more of a test you just get or you don't. Most of the time people score in the exact same range as before. The average increase for SERIOUS studying is around 100 points (not shabby).

There are of course exceptions, one friend of mine went up from an 1850 to a 2090. But on the other hand another friend is taking it for a fourth time and still unhappy with her score. I took a 10 week prep course and studied around a half hour to an hour a day the week before I took it. I did very well on it so I only took it once. Good luck!

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

I got an 1800 or something... About the equivalent of a 27 or 28 on the ACT. I didn't study at all and I was sick that day.

I was also sick when I took the ACT (I have terrible luck with standardized testing dates; I was also sick when I took 4 of 7 AP tests) and I got a 32.

Study as much as you feel you need, but really it comes down to how well you can take a test. I found that the content on there was plenty easy, they just make it harder by giving you a ton of questions in a certain amount of time. Take some practice tests for it to get a feel of how the pacing is so that you don't run out of time. Also, ACT >> SAT (No mandatory essay)

I took the SAT before the format changed dramatically, while it was on a 1600 point scale rather than a 2400 point scale. Back then, I took it twice, scoring a 770 Math/550 Verbal the first time, and a 780 Math/660 Verbal the second time.

The reason my verbal score improved is because I had a learning disorder, and after another year of therapy I was able to rewire how my brain functions. It also improved because I studied Latin, which was helpful for analogies. Due to the 2005 changes, studying Latin is no longer that helpful since analogies were removed.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think the SAT is something you can really study for.

I dunno really. The SAT's and ACT's are supposed to be similar.

I didn't study at all for the ACTs and studied right near the top.

Kinda hard to study for something so random.

I didn't study at all and got a 1670...

Then again, my friend who studied 4 hours a day for a month got a 2310!
