I got an 1800 or something... About the equivalent of a 27 or 28 on the ACT. I didn't study at all and I was sick that day. 
I was also sick when I took the ACT (I have terrible luck with standardized testing dates; I was also sick when I took 4 of 7 AP tests) and I got a 32.
Study as much as you feel you need, but really it comes down to how well you can take a test. I found that the content on there was plenty easy, they just make it harder by giving you a ton of questions in a certain amount of time. Take some practice tests for it to get a feel of how the pacing is so that you don't run out of time. Also, ACT >> SAT (No mandatory essay)
