I think he took business classes and learned about disruption, then, connected the strategy to nintendo's wii and people have been praising him ever since. Most of everything else he mentions about business really demonstrates his lack of the video game industry in a fundamental way, which makes me think that he is interested in business first, and video games second.

Malstrom is famous for predicting that the Wii would be the greatest success in video game history... before it launched. I think the only other prediction that said that was an April Fool's Joke. So the man is a psychic genius.
