Forums - Gaming - There needs to be a western created Final Fantasy (main series)

Look, I'm a fan of the Final Fantasy series. I own every single game (except for spin offs) and when FFXIII was going to be for PS3 only I would've bought the game even if I didn't have a PS3. But as I keep growing with the series I've gotten to the point where I'm just tired of the same silliness of Japanese pop culture. I'm sure FF 13 is going to have a fantastic storyline with some twists to it but it will also be plagued with the typical jokes or same old stereotype characters since FF 7.

I believe that SE could get some badass developer or an in house team in their western offices capable of do a more mature FF game with some of our takes on life.

Anyway, I was just ranting cuz I saw the whole weapon system and the jokes about the "coat weapon" that one the character uses. (Yes, I know he uses his fists!). What do y'all think? I would appreciate input from European and American players that have grown with the franchise and have expanded their game tastes. Fanboyism responses will be ignored.

I'd actually rather see the series go back to more a traditional style seen during previous console generations (snes, ps1) rather then change even more then it has over the past few years. I do agree that some of the japanese influence (specifically with the character design) has gotten out of hand though.

lol a simple english song by an award winning singer in FF13 has led to 1 VGc member & blogs saying they will not buy FF13

if S-E does this, god save us

No, I like it the way it is right now. I wouldn't even mind them going back to their roots

Everytime FF (after FF7) went back to "tradition" (that is a medieval setting) it underperformed

FF9, FF12 both underperformed in comparison to FF7, FF8 & FF10

Don't expect a FF that goes back to medieval setting for a long time, unless the FF tactics team is making FF15 like they made FF12

EDIT: oh & please keep the FF Tactics team away from a main final fantasy S-E.....let them make FF tactics HD or something

You know what? I agree. The series needs to take a step back to its roots. The old series was well balanced. Not all exaggerated like the latest editions.

Well, they could do something like a "Secret of Evermore" Remake/Sequel

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I didn't so much mean in terms of setting (I mean, medieval settings have been absent from the game for a long time, FF6 was steampunk, FF7 cyberpunk, FF8 modern/futuristic, etc), what I meant was more in regards of the gameplay. Since FFIX many changes have been made from the traditional core Final Fantasy experience, notibly things like your world map (obviously I understand progression, but the direction FF took was to linear, DQ8 did it right), the combat (FFXI and FFXII have very much departed from the traditional FF combat), etc.

Would you say they underperformed or people just had grown tired of the series? I mean, FF9 was an excellent game but it was not a first day buy for me. I was just kinda exhausted of the series. FF 12 was a tad off because of the MMO battle system style ad that could've turned off a bunch of players away. I think with each generation of FF you see an influx of new fans and towards the end of the console generation people have moed on hence why the lower sales.

FPS+Steriods+Dead people+Commies+Gratuitous violence+McDonalds+Zombies+War+Nazis+Aliens+Post-Apocalyptic future+Nazi-Commies= GOOD FRIGGIN' GAME.
