I think people are overreacting to both of these choices. I remember people hating the Japanese theme song when they first unveiled it. Now people want it?

People who want to hate on a Final Fantasy game will always find reasons to justify their hate. And since it's also a major mainstain series in the RPG genre, it's "cool" to hate on it.

All final fantasy games do something diferent because they want to inovate, captivate new markets or just try new stuff up. Unlike it, some fans of the series, just want to be stuck in the same cycle, so if a FF game differs from what they have invisioned, then it brings forth an automatic rage.

Just accept FFXIII for all that it can bring, knowing that it will be another masterpiece in the Final Fantasy saga.

I won't buy it because the series has lost its appeal to me and I look towards other RPG's

I still believe that you can't judged a song until you see the context that it's used.

Songs can become a lot more powerful if you see what's happening in the moment.

I loved this music! People, I love J-pop, but you shouldn't be so conservative about it, this music is great and somehow brings me the FF feeling. S-E is showing a tendency to occidental their games made for WW release, like FF CC The Crystal Bearers have a Bon Jovi music as main theme. And think with market way, Leone is pretty famous in UK and continental Europe(she is famous in US as well?), she isn't any singer,she is a X factor winner, sure the music choice will help sales at least a little.
