Forums - Website Topics - How about a Rep system?

Torillian said:
well that would be no extra work for me, hmm....and it would let people know what happened to their reports. I like it. Good thinking Zex.

Glad you like it. Though, I know very little of HTML programming, so I don't know how that would be easy or hard for TalonMan to implement, maybe it's impossible

I hope it's not, though

@Ironman

Im not saying have a negative points or anything, just positive points for good posters, helpful ones.

@Zexen_lowe

Thats a good idea,That would also make the forums more strict.

There is a rep system imo - just check if they own a Suikoden or Persona game.

I can't afford a rep I'm making to much money

Great idea Garnett. +1 rep for you.

Honestly though, one of the best communities I have ever seen is on PS3Trophies.com, and all of the members there take the rep thing pretty seriously. You give it to people who post interesting thigs, or just make LOL-worthy (like you literally laugh when you read it) posts. It's a really great system and makes people feel like they belong to something important, and stay somewhat respectful as well, they have rep to protect after all.

Karma system? Oh, god, no.

Let's have two examples. Thread in Microsoft forum about Halo 3 being overrated (or Sony forum and Uncharted 2 or Nintendo forum and MKWii if you like).

OP: I don't like "x game", and felt it was overrated.
*Well-developed reasoning*
What are your thoughts?

Reply: FUCK OFF YOU IDIOT, "x game" is the best game ever!

Now, who would get the higher vote? Extreme example, of course, because the replier would be banned. But you get the idea. You'd be voted up if you have a popular opinion.

The only thing that would be good is a "User was warned/banned for this post" and I agree that if there is to be a ratings system, it should be for mods and admins only. Perhaps extending to VGC Gods if all goes well

I like the sound of that

I have never seen a good rep system and I'm fairly sure there just isn't one.

*Every* rep system I've ever seen, even one on professional websites, fails miserably and ends up just being removed or ignored.

So yeah, as long as I'm here I'm probably going to be against it and do whatever I can to not have one. I really don't want to deal with the headaches of people bitching about them getting karma-trolled.

The OP lists it as being positive-only, and only mods would be able to grant positive rep.

I admit, the positive only ones are better but I promise you will still have two things:

  1. People begging me for props
  2. People complaining they don't get enough props
  3. People saying VGC is biased because x console gets more props than y console threads

I've never seen one where only the mods can give positive props, but I've seen quite a few positive only ones and people still complain.
