Forums - Sales - Is there something wrong with the Tekken 6 numbers?

Tekken 6 preorders in NA 1 week before release: PS3: 129,022, X360: 80,871

Actual Tekken 6 first week sales in NA: PS3: 96,646, X360: 66,236

So... were the preorder numbers overtracked, or were the first week sales undertracked?

Or... a whole bunch of people who preordered didn't bother getting the game?

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say that the preorder numbers were overtracked.

But I suppose we'll have to wait for a definitive answer until ioi replies.

Probably a lot of fall out from the loss of exclusivity and the overall downfall of fighters this generation of consoles. I know I had it pre-ordered and changed my pre-order over to Uncharted 2, maybe others did the same.

your idea is pretty weird and disconnected from the question. I mean, if they preordered the game, that means they wanted it, downfall of fighters or not. Loss of exclusivity is a non issue; people have known this for months and months.

That preorder number in the OP is 1 WEEK before the release of the game. So are you saying that 33,000 PS3 owners and 14,000 360 owners Suddenly decided "fighters suck" and changed their preorder 1 WEEK before the game released?

I guess logic does not work on the planet you are from.....pre-orders are just possible sales, some people if they care about a game will pick up their pre-orders the day and date the game is released.  Pre-orders are not definate sales, it is more like a maybe; I moved my pre-order from tekken to uncharted (2 weeks before Uncharted 2 launched), most probably did not pick up tekken and opted for some other game.  It is not rocket science, why was that so hard to understand?  Tekken lost my sale due to loss of exclusivity, this is my choice and is why I choose not to buy it.  60$ dollars for a fighter is too much, fighters have declined over the years as well.  Either way you slice it, there are various factors why this game did not do as good as the previous tekken games on the ps2 (install base, more competition, etc).

You're not getting the point.

Exclusivity loss was from months and months ago. And those preorder numbers are from both consoles already. Are you saying that those thousands of people suddenly just realized that the game is no longer exclusive 1 WEEK before release?

And I'm not talking about previous Tekken games or whatever. I'm talking about how come preorder numbers were so far higher than actual first week sales. I don't care about how much it sold. I care about the discrepancy between preorder and actual sales. Please read the post before claiming "downfall of fighters": again, if they preordered it, that means they wanted it, decline of fighters or not. And 50,000 people can't have had the same reason as you did.

Yeah, I severely doubt sales were hurt because of loss of exclusivity at this point. I mean, yeah, sales might've been hurt, but anyone who didn't want Tekken 6 because of that would've decided it back when exclusivity was lost. Not now, like 6 months later.

Also, I severely doubt people who were going to buy it on 360 suddenly dropped out going "You know what? This isn't exclusive to the PS3 anymore, now I don't want it."

ioi or nordlead should be able to answer this. I believe KZ2's preorders were overtracked, too.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Maybe they were "over-tracked" but I still think most just did not care to pick the game up.  I had this sucker pre-ordered awhile ago and honestly forgot about it until I went in to pre-order uncharted 2.  Maybe the 360 people choose to pick up another game, it happens people.

^ such things happen, but not to 50,000 people in 1 week. that one's called a discrepancy.
