Forums - Nintendo - Why is a high-def Wii needed?

Anyone explain why Nintendo has to come out with a high-def Wii over the next few years?  Maybe you can give reasons why they need it, but I see the following and am not sure why it is needed:

1. Hardcore gamers have show a dislike for motion control.  It is a common rant and whining about it that the games take away they beloved pad controller and replaces it with waggle.  In this dislike, the cheering on Natal (and the light wands for the PS3) seems to feel like it has overtones of, "Now we can get those casual players to march to my consiole of choice, and WE WILL RULE THE WORLD US REAL GAMERS AND THOSE CASUAL IDIOT PEONS!"

2. Non-hardcore gamers don't seem to care about high def.  Sales figures showed it.  The Wii has multiple titles that people jump on.  I will get onto this a bit more with my next point.

3. What exactly high def add to the Wii experience that you can't get now?  Does the Wii really need high def?  Does giving Miis wrinkles and realistic faces make the game better?

4. Why is having a second console, like the Wii, that does different things, bad?  Must we have it so that Nintendo caters to absolutely everyone, including high end graphics snobs who mostly play FPS titles?  Why is the Wii as a casual gamer's choice, and regular gamer's second console a bad thing?

Anyhow, Nintendo will eventually come out with another console.  Why do they need it now?  Would a High Def Wii, with worse specs than the 360 or PS3, or better specs and a $300+ price point, really make for videogame life being better?  Didn't Nintendo end up in last place trying to keep up with the Jones?  Why must they go back there?

I don't think it is a matter of Nintendo needing to release a HD console as much as the standard cycle of console releases ... While Nintendo has some power to choose when they release their next console, it is unlikely that their next system would come (much) after Q4 2012 or 2013; and it is obvious that Nintendo would take advantage of new, higher performance, low cost hardware (which will be able to support HD resolutions).

well my new TV would love it, it's painful to play anything not over 720p in it.

I would have no problem playing Wii games with better graphics but from any point of view, other than a purely selfish one as a user who likes shiny things, it isn't necessary. I'm more than happy to wait a couple more years to see all the great Nintendo franchises with a new coat of paint.

Plus if we got Wii HD soon, what's to say we won't just get ported PS3/360 games with tacked on motion controls rather than the ported PS2/PSP games with tacked on motion controls that we got at the start of the generation.

Oh, so I guess it's going to be a pain playing Modern Warfare 2 since that isn't 720p

So it doesn't look like ass on HDTVs.

I don't need HD to really enjoy Mario Kart Wii! It's great the way it is! That's just my opinion of course :).

A HD Wii isnt needed at all....ppl just think that will solve all Wii's 3rd party problems in a Flash when the Wii being a non HD gaming is no wear near the issue

I believe Bill Gates asked a very similar question.

why do we need more ram????

to be honest Nintendo made a huge mistake not making the Wii HD.

If they did it for the Wii's orig release then the would be no such thing as a HD war and the Wii would be sitting on sales that would make the DS look average.

And i really believe that. It would have had the hardcore and casuals. batman AA, Assassins Creed, Final Fantasy 13, Tekken 6 and other big 3rd party games aswell as Nintendo's first party all on the little white box.

It would have been killer
