Amen. I mean come on, text chat? Mouse control support? It really boggles my mind that they would say that. And you're right, it's all about the tone, the way they are proud of it.

I was on the fence on whether to get it on a console or on the PC, then I heard of the lack of dedicated servers, and it put me almost over the fence for consoles. Now with all this, what's the point of a PC version?

To all asking "why are id and IW doing this?":

As Jaggedsac said, their is nothing about matchmaking P2P that stops people using mods but P2P can be used by developers to stop mods (they can't control dedicated servers) so the only way you can get extra content and maps is with paid DLC and not free user-made maps.

That's just my theory anway.

But if you hack the game, you can hack the p2p version too.

Although it is something to even respond to the petition saying it isn't being ignored, I doubt they'll do anything about it in the end.

It's basic economics.

If you provide dedicated servers you have to provide officials dedicated servers ( or at the start people will bitch there are no servers up).

With over 50% of the people playing those games online using pirated version of the software no PC developer in their right mind wants to have to pay for dedicated officials servers to support pirates ( remember when the last Stardock game released ? The servers went down the first week and the numbers they provided was something like 80% of the people on them were pirates which is the reason the servers crashed, they did not account for those when they designed the servers..)

Bottomline is with the rampant PC piracy developers are not going to  do anything that would increase their costs as more pirates play the game..

It's one thing to loose sales due to piracy, it's another to actually incur extra costs due to pirates playing online..

I guess I'm sticking to good ol' UT2004 for my multiplayer FPS fix. I swear, Epic got EVERYTHING right int hat game, literally everything.

If it comes down to it I just won't buy a new FPS again, seeing how they are going down the shitter faster than if it was coated with super lubricant...

It's aactually pretty hard to get a pirated game to play on offical servers correctly. All you really need is a CD key. Look at B.net, you can't connect and all they use is a simple CD-Key, sure there's Garena, but that puts no extra cost on developers and you cannot tell me SC, WC3, Diabo are selling poorly and have't made people massive amounts of money.

Robert Bowling can shove those NVGs with that stupid head up his ass for all I care.

I know Carmack is incredibly smart.

But why the hell would he call a clearly superior system a relic of the past?
