It outsold the PS2 games, hell MHG Wii even outsold the PS2 version. Granted that was before the franchise hit the big time on PSP, but the game is at least consistent with Capcom's expectations so far and it's actually beating expectations on the online subscriptions. Then there's also Taiko and the DQ spinoff, which both sold consistently with comparable PS2 entries. Plus Capcom's Wii Biohazard shooters have far outsold their PS2 counterparts. On Wii, established brands usually sell, new brands usually flop. That's generally the way it goes on all platforms actually, the only reason the HD consoles have generally better 3rd party sales is because they have generally better established 3rd party brands. If we bring 1st party into it though (as you did with S&P) Wii software sales murder HD consoles. Also, Treasure's never sold 50k in Japan on an shooter. Fat chance it'd happen on 360, especially with a rail shooter... Panzer Orta didn't even break 50k on the original Xbox and that was a series that sold 500k+ on Saturn. :P |
the game got popular recently. mainly because PSP and train stations. and it carried aaway for the wii, if the ps2 got monster hunter tri, u could have seen similar sales or even better sales than the wii.
and likely a monster hunter freedom 3 will out sell mh3.

Alright, let me rephrase that, CORE HOME CONSOLES have retaken Japan with CASUAL HOME VIDEOGAME TOYS are (is) on their way down.

I don´t know why I respond to this. If it makes you happy to judge sales when it fits to your tastes then by all means do that. It wont change the reality in Japan though and that is that the so called "casual" home console is still having a huge lead over the "core" consoles.
But all that is laughably nonimportant as Japan is (like I said) a portable country (more to the point a DS country). DS rules Japan and all others except with the possible exceptions of Wii and PSP are not big enough to mention if one are discussing sales. The two systems that you say are taking Japan are the two smallest. Ironic.

Naw, PS2 can't carry software sales like it used to in Japan. MH3 would've done well there, but not as well as it did on Wii. Plus it wouldn't get the sort of ambitious western push Nintendo's planning, which is probably the real reason the franchise moved over.
MHF3 will definitely outsell MH3 though, probably by like 3 to 1. Hell, I think that Felyne Villiage spinoff might outsell MH3 too depending on what it is exactly. I wonder if the inevitable MH3G on Wii will outsell the original release though?

I'm not saying it's a flop or anything, but MH3 has a while to go in order to meet the expectations for Monster Hunter 3.

Japan's doing fine though, even exceeding Capcom's expectations for online subscriptions already. The real test will be in the west, where Nintendo's going to be pushing it themselves.

well probably not now but it's prime time, if monster hunter was popular ps2 should have carried mh tri better.

That's way too many what ifs. Besides, Wii did just as well as PS2 with Taiko, BH spinoffs and DQ spinoffs, who's to say the same doesn't hold true for MH?
