You seem to forget which country had the strongest PS1 and PS2 sales my friend. 10 million is definitely not a milestone. It's a sign that Sony just needed to drop the price.
|
Considering the odds against the console, which isn't a PS1 or a PS2, it IS a milestone. I hate to be a dick but let this be a place where people can be happy for the console.
|
Be happy for it? Sony put road bumps in their way, not consumers. If Sony makes a console, with all the great devs they've got under their power people will buy systems. That isn't a question. Odds are Sony was going to make profit within 10 years, due to the road they chose to take for their system. Microsoft has to deal with odds without putting road blocks in front of their system, because they are an American system. Try this on for size. Sony has 10 million consoles sold in America and Microsoft still has one million in Japan. Milestone eh?
|
Yes, 1 million 360s in Japan was a milestone. Guess who was in there celebrating - me.
Guess who WASN'T in there saying anything bad about it, as they are in here - you.
There lies the problem, let these people have their moment. It isn't that much to ask...

This is not a milestone. This is business as usual for Sony. Which region of the world do you think is carrying their Blu Ray sales? America. Seriously man. As I said, a milestone is coming against the odds. Case in point...the odds were never against Sony.

WHAT?!!
- $600 Price point. One of the highest in history.
Sony put that barrier infront of themselves. They were quite confident in the 10 year plan and Blu Ray being adopted, so they won out in the end. If you would realize that Sony won for themselves (as planned) the second they won the format war, you're at a loss in this so called "struggle". Sony knew they had pent up demand in the west and the east had to get more JRPG's to be opened up again.
- Lackluster marketing. Creepy baby commercials weren't going to get the point across.
Sony put that barrier infront of themselves. Sony never needed to out market Microsoft in the west. If it says Sony and it is semi good quality, it sells in the west.
- Lackluster launch line-up that lasted nearly a FULL
As I said again, this is all Sony's fault. Blu Ray was highly complicated, but their job was to save the format before pushing the system and the games. As I said, they hurt themselves and they are the only ones to blame, not demand.
year.
- $250 Wii launching right next to it.
Sonys fault again. Every gen Sony must win the format war or make their format mainstream....you should know them by now.
- Xbox 360 had a nice grip on the 3rd parties
Because they beat Sony to the punch and actually gave a damn about games first before formats.
Despite all this, the PS3 is selling faster than the 360 in the same time frame and is currently one of the fastest selling consoles, ever! 10 million consoles in NA helped carry out such a feat. The console also helped put Blu-ray on top. Why is all this relevant, because this is a thread celebreating the milestone of a console. What YOU don't see as a milestone dosn't mean it isn't one. Fact is, how many 3rd place (or losing consoles) can claim the amount of victories that the PS3 can?
Not trying to be an ass but if you don't agree with the OP, that's fine, I have nothing against that. But why continue to pick at the thread though, let it be.....
