Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto does it again ?

I would like to bring up that there's an even bigger bit of news related to this article. That of Nintendo announcing they are going to focus on advertising and marketing Dragon Quest IX for its international release.

"At a Q&A session last week following the company’s financial results briefing, Nintendo exec Shinji Hatano said that it wants the Dragon Quest series to succeed in overseas territories, and that the companies believe the games should be selling much better than they are."

Speculation of a new game by Miyamoto is fun and all, but this is a major deal, seeing as Nintendo is basically telling SquareEnix to fix its practices with its second largest gaming franchise and make it popular outside of Japan. Its pretty sad that Nintendo is going to have to subsidize the marketing and PR for them just to get the franchise popular when SquareEnix has already released 6 Dragon Quest titles themselves. If they could make a melding of Final Fantasy and Disney characters popular, they should have been able to make Dragon Quest work by now.

We've known for a while that Nintendo will be the one backing the marketing of DQIX in the West.

They said it once last year and never brought it up again.  Its nice that they finally confirmed it.  And I still feel its a bigger deal.

There's a possibility that Nintendo has a chance of making the series popular like something such as Professor Layton.  Lord knows no one in SquareEnix really seems all that interested in making the series popular over here (except Yuji Horii himself).

Six upcoming games you should look into:

That's a fair thing to say, though it's also fair to say that one of Miyamoto's brainstorms has a certain chance of being bigger than Dragon Quest.

Zelda with cats sounds good but then a cat type of animal 'a tiger who can be your companion and goes after certain enemies if it all is a bit to much' or just replacing the horse.

Oh well I give it a high chance being a joke =p.

god I wish miyamoto would get some better inspirado.
His biggest hits had some great reference material, and now it's just random stuff he likes.
Next he's gunna be like "so I've been cooking for myself recently", or, "I've been reading the dictionary...", "I like to sleep a lot"

I dunno man, his inspirations have been intensely mundance before. Zelda was about exploring caves, sure, but Mario was just "Jumping is fun"

zelda was inspired by a movie

mario was inspired by a demanding italian landlord and new york city

Some of the fantasy elements from Zelda were inspired by Legend, but the gameplay was inspired by being a kid and exploring nearby woods and mountains, and never knowing what's around any corner.

Miyamoto made Donkey Kong all about jumping, because it was fun.  He named the guy Jumpman.  You're thinking of a different story.  When they shipped the Donkey Kong arcade pieces to the new Nintendo of America in Redmond, Washington, the new guys had to translate the game, and they thought the name Jumpman would be really stupid in America.  So while they were thinking of a name, their landlord Mario showed up to ask for the rent, so they named him Mario as a joke.  Nothing to do with Miyamoto.  And I have absolutely no idea why they decided he was from Brooklyn later on, because that hasn't come up in a single Mario game.  I think that was just in a manual and the TV show and the movie.

he lived in brooklyn because of the sewer system has a lot of undergound pipes.

Nintendcatz!!

Could be....

MY ZELDA COLLECTION

Didn't Miyamoto himself state in an interview recently that there would never be a 'Nintencats'? :p Yes he did, I'm quite certain, but too lazy to look it up.
