I know, I know. When I said that, didn't mean SCEE! I meant Sony in general, I am aware it's SCEA's job. They should learn from SCEE and do something similar to this. |
Lol, sorry. But you know, it's going to need more than this to take back NA, since that's Microsoft territory. They need strong software. FFXIII will cover Japan, and GT5 will cover Europe, but NA is difficult. Maybe MAG (preorders are rather high) and Agent (if it achieves the same success as GTA) could do the job.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Exactly what kind of boost is this supposed to generate? I can see a new console needing to generate attention, but this? Who doesn't know of the Playstation brand and the PS3? Why is someone going to suddenly decide to buy a PS3, because Sony sets up something like this? Sony was taking a beating at price first and foremost, and they helped to address that, so there was an increase in sales.

Um, contributing to the recognition of your brand is a bad thing? |
When you are a recognized brand, you don't need help in that area. If the booths have people there doing PR stuff, and generating a good vibe, that can help. But merely reminding people you exist, when everyone knows this, has diminishing returns. I would assume that they do have someone there to educate the public on the PS3, and why it does more, and so on.

The industry is now run by suits who try to maximize profits and the bottom line. When this happens, I can appreciate the work of development teams (I am a fan of the Uncharted and the Ratchet and Clank series), but why would I be appreciative of a company doing things to win marketshare? Are they going to send cookies to every single Playstation 3 owner if they win? No, it is a consumer product that they make money off of. They are doing for self-serving interests. So, why show appreciation of that?
The studio producing Avatar, for example, showed a three minute clip to Avatar at the start of the Cowboy's game this past Sunday. Are we supposed to appreciate them doing something that is meant to gain box office for a movie? It is totally self-serving. By the way, I wrote questioning the effectiveness of the move, and laid out ways that it MIGHT help. But please remind me what I gain by Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft gaining or losing marketshare.

I want to see this reaction from you when other comapnies do this as well. If you're fair and balanced, you will have this reaction towards every company that tries to better themselves to remain in the industry. |
If a thread is posted about it, I can. I don't normally see people getting excited over these things. But note, I do give kudos out. I think the Kevin Butler "Dear Playstation" spots are awesome, and I like Jack Trenton's nervousness at E3.

It shows other aspects of the PS3 like iPlayer and vidzone which haven't seen much in the way of advertising before. Why not showcase your latest and greatest games while you're at it?
