The industry is now run by suits who try to maximize profits and the bottom line. When this happens, I can appreciate the work of development teams (I am a fan of the Uncharted and the Ratchet and Clank series), but why would I be appreciative of a company doing things to win marketshare? Are they going to send cookies to every single Playstation 3 owner if they win? No, it is a consumer product that they make money off of. They are doing for self-serving interests. So, why show appreciation of that?
The studio producing Avatar, for example, showed a three minute clip to Avatar at the start of the Cowboy's game this past Sunday. Are we supposed to appreciate them doing something that is meant to gain box office for a movie? It is totally self-serving. By the way, I wrote questioning the effectiveness of the move, and laid out ways that it MIGHT help. But please remind me what I gain by Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft gaining or losing marketshare.
