The game does just look phenomenal, though I would prefer a properly turn based battle system

Wow that looks fantastic. Sphere grid evolution was one of my favourites in the FF universe, since it allowed you to do so much strategic options and preparation through the whole game. Glad to see FFXIII implementing something of the sort. Also I loved the Amusement park picture, reminds me a lot of Golden Saucer.

I agree, while FFX had the sphere grid system, you were basically stuck with "classes" until pretty much afterwards Yunalesca's demise. In FFXII wasn't that linear, and you could actually assign any role you wanted to your characters, from the start. The main drawback was that some characters started closer in the License Board to specific "classes" than others.
I would like to have a true Job system like it was implemented on FFII and FFV with each character starting on equal grounds in terms of stats development and skills development on that new Crystalium Growth System.

I would only agree to this if you could pick what type for what character. I hate it when a game assigns one character as the "Must be the healer" but then I hate that character and I am forced to use him/her.
Being able to build them all however you like means you can take the characters you dislike and bury them at level 1 for eternity. |
EXACTLY.....the freedom offered is great!
Besides I think we already know certain characters can only use certain magic elements, snow can use ice (but not any others), lightning fire (and not any others) & so on....I think so anyway
@munkeh111
yeah for me FFX's gameplay was the most fun & best one.....but FF13's system looks different, lets see how it goes
SHIT! I'm even more hyped now! I loved the sound of the Crystalium System, just as I loved the Sphere Grid in FFX, even though I was wary of it before getting to try it.
April is so freaking far away, dear lord.
If each grid isn't different then all the characters just become mundane generic characters. It killed XII for me cuz I felt like no one was that much different. I like to play with unique characters not blank slates with all the same possibilities.
The characters were different in FF XII, but they were probably too close, but there were certainly different characters who were slightly better at different things

Making all 255 gods in FFX wasn't quite what you'd call fun or rewarding, but it was something. It definitely brought out the grinder perfectionist in me like no other game. |
Oh yeah, I sure hope they will let us max out our characters and thus render all specialization worthless, it's such a great idea.

Well, at least you're right by saying that.
Grinding = More play time = More value for $. Plus, when characters get to the point where their stats are all the same, you're at a level in which the final boss is probably beatable in 1-2 hits...
