Forums - General - Does anyone think that people are making a big deal out of H1N1?

Um, its supposed to be released for priority groups only during the week of november 2. I have no clue about when the general population gets one.

On one hand, I agree it's absolutely retarded how paranoid people are getting and how the news is trying to scare everyone but on the other hand, it is making people cleaner...

Yes, that is always a plus.

The way I see it, paranoia is good for the masses. So this is a good thing. (You know, as long as the paranoia isn't super mega insane)

It's basically as virulent as seasonal flu, I couldn't give a shit about it.

I will never leave you

Salmonella, H1N1, SARS, Killer Bees, El Nino, Anthrax, whatever. Every year, it's something very real and it's going to kill us all. I don't feed into it anymore.

Firstly, if you have a compromised immune system you could be at risk. It is far better to get this flu now while it is safe and hasn't mutated hence you will develop and immunity incase it does mutate into something dangerous that could potentially harm the masses.

The question, YES IT HAS BEEN BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION massivley. But, the scientists have got what they wanted, people are scared and more funding will be provided towards more scientific developments in the world. Which is always good. When asked people won't donate, when potentially at risk, people will do anything....

A.) Do you have a compromised immune system.
B.) It could mutate and become dangerous to the masses.

El Nino?

How was that meant to kill us all?

^I was kidding, Wrath. But back in 1997, El Nino was making hot days cold, cold days hot, sunny days rainy, and rainy days sunny. It was in the news every day. It even stole "comedian" Sinbad's car keys.

It's really pathetic. People always need something to be scared of.

Swine flu is no more dangerous than the regular seasonal flu.

It's a virus strain that is killing more people every month.

I'm fine with them riding the story to death because the alternative is less coverage which leaves more people ignorant about it and means fewer will take the proper precautions for themselves and their children.

I think a lot of the people who are saying there's too much coverage are the people in their teens or 20s who feel somewhat invincible and don't have children. A child's immune system isn't as strong as an adult's and they're at risk from viruses like this far more because of it. Something that you could shake off with a couple days in bed can be fatal to them.

If you're a parent then you damn well want to know when something is dangerous to your child and how to prevent it.

One person died of the virus here. 1 out of 7 millions...and she was 87 years old!

So your point is that because only one person has died where you live that everyone is safe and that no one should care or what?

As of today, 1,463 people have died of it in the US.  There were 210 fatalities in just this past week.

you forgot to add the most important part!

its out of 330 million people.

so 1463/330,000,000 is....

.0000443

So there is your chances of dying. You have a better chance of dying just driving down the street.

People die of the flu every year. This year, they decided to add a name to one of them and now everybody thinks that it's a lot more deadly while it's not as much as the media is making it sound. You have 0,02% chance of dying...now come on.

This isn't the regular flu though.  This is one strain of the flu that is killing a lot of people.

In the last month we've had anywhere between 150 and 300 deaths per week.

Do you think your percentage makes the families of those 210 people who died last week feel better?  The 150 people who died the week before?  The 115 people who died the week before that?

You know what's even worse?  The number of people dying each week hasn't been going down.  It's going up.
