Forums - Nintendo - Iwata (not laughing): ' We failed with the Wii'

Seem you two missed the party. Iwata never mentioned FAILED in his quote. Good thing GAFers clarify this. Now the thread that first started this was LULZY:

That thread had the best comment about this topic:

"nintendo is like that snob who always gets A+'s in a typical highschool. the best part is he cries whenever he gets an A-, think about how the kids with a B or C average would feel!"

So true.  I don't know if I should laugh at Nintendo or give them a hug.  What crazy expectations they have.

Anyway, I just started playing Art Style: Orbient.  Nintendo can do no wrong.  That game is magic.

well the hardware is out, so lets focus on new staller software now

NSMBWii should help, at least in their side mission of bringing "lapsed gamers," back into the fold (what a better way to do so than to give them a modernized version of that same game they remembered playing back when they still thought games were fun?), but yeah, aside from the Motion Plus-driven promise of the next Zelda, and the mysteries of the Vitality Sensor, you're not seeing the kind of stuff that can definitively reverse this trend. Galaxy 2 isn't going to move hardware so much, and Other M (despite looking incredibly awesome so far) is a pure vanity project, though it may help to sway some more core gamers.

Epic Mickey actually could help, if we take the argument that "potential buyers want new motion content," to be true.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It's nice that they admit it. Alot of corporations wouldn't and would just give some bullshit PR spin.

Sony and MS, while selling low and bleeding money like an amputee: "We're the greatest! Our product DOMINATES the home console market! Blah blah blah..."

Nintendo, while actually dominating the home console market: "We've failed and we can do better."

This is what differentiates Nintendo from the rest.

Well... currently anyway.

i was waiting for iwaita to say
Wii iz domed!

I'm glad they're admitting something, now, Nintendo. Get crackin' with some software that will surely help.

Oh man I love Nintendo. They failed to reach their ridiculously lofty goals, and accidentally ONLY made the most successful revolution of video game history in the areas of controls, marketing, market expansion, making the industry more mainstream and accepted by families, girls, older gamers, lapsed gamers, convalescent homes, rehabilitation clinics, cruise ships, and even played live at the Oscars, and they also had the greatest comeback of all time in this industry, and did it with cheap outdated tech to boot! But that's not good enough for Nintendo. They want MOAR!!!

Damn! That's just the best post ever.

You know what? The shame isn't on Ninty, but on the 3rd-parties!

I believe that what Iwata is saying betwen the lines is:

"f*ck you third-parties! if you don't want to earn money, f*ck you!

"We know were we've mistaken: we thought that by now you would be putting your souls on games for Wii, but you aren't. What now? Now we will forget about you and awaken our software factory and overrun the market with Zelda, Starfox, Metroid, Mario. Wii lost its momentum and that was our fault: we trusted you!

"Now we know: forget about the 3rd-parties, release games non-stop and just forget about them: let them try to sell by matching our quality."

Nintendo wants more sales, but Iwata admitted they didn't have the games to continue the momentum.

Nintendo fans never want to admit that the games on Wii just aren't that strong.  They go back to talking about profits...which would be relevant if you were a Nintendo investor, but not so much if you are a core gamer.

Personally think its far from a 'failure'.
Plenty of good games that I am still playing (can't put down Muramasa, so phenomenal)
2010 looks great too so I think its far from a failure.
Yeah they will fail at their prediction but that was crazy high anyway.
Great time to be a gamer with any platform in my opinion :)
