I agree to disagree with this statement. 

I never really cared for Crash Team Racing, but you're entitled to your opinion.

For me PS1 isqwas the best console ever, JRPG is my favorite genre (even though my favorite game isn't a JRPG) and PS1 had the BEST JRPGs in existance, and almost all of them has aged extremely well, (since i've played them like two/three years ago :P ).
If you'll ask me today which console have the best games available today, i'll still say that it is the PS1.

Tekken 3 and Metal Gear Solid for me wiped everything other consoles had to offer. PS1 library was superior to everything else at that time, that's nobrainer. Also the fact that PS1 destroyed the competetion at the time, when only gamers were buying consoles tells a lot.

It comes down to genre preference. If JRPGs are your thing, no way in hell you'd prefer the N64. And I love JRPGs.

 

As for other genres, I have only one word: Skullmoneys!
