There is no way Microsoft would put forth such an ill-conceived plan like this. If the price of one year of LIVE went up to a hundred dollars, I'm confident that 90% of Xbox 360 users, myself included, would hop over to PS3.

why do we need a new OS every 4 years? Think Unix which has remained unchanged and stable for close to 30 years.

I am not saying that every OS becomes like Unix. However why can't we have the same OS and then install features on top of it?

And then you have to consider how every OS iteration means that the hardware becomes obsolete and you have to buy new hardware to support.

Thats how M$ is ripping off a large number of consumers who only use their computers for home computing.
